Logan Webb, SP, Giants
Logan Webb looked great on Friday, striking out 12 batters over six innings in an unlucky 2-0 loss against the Angels. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks. He induced 16 whiffs on the night with 11 coming in his signature changeup. The 11 whiffs came on 14 swings (79% whiff rate) and had a CSW% of 52%. This is especially encouraging considering that he struggled with his changeup in 2024 which led to a down year. The last time his offspeed was working this effectively was in 2023 when he posted a 3.25 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 194 strikeouts in 216 innings. It looks like Webb is in for a rebound season and could be once again considered a fantasy ace.
Tommy Edman, 2B/OF, Dodgers
Tommy Edman had a great night from the leadoff spot, going 3 for 4 with a home run, two runs, and an RBI. He's now slashing .288/.326/.600 with seven home runs, 15 runs, 15 RBI, and a stolen base through his first 21 games. It's been a breakout year for the Dodger, but not in the way many were expecting. The speedster has just one steal while maintaining a home run pace that far surpasses his power output in previous years. His .303 xBA (90th percentile) is even better than his actual average, and he's also showcasing a .583 xSLG (91st), 37.3% squared-up rate (95th), and a 14.6% strikeout rate (86th). I expect his home run pace to slow down and his stolen bases to pick up as we get deeper into the season, but either way, this is looking like a breakout year for Edman in a loaded Dodgers lineup.
Jacob DeGrom, SP, Rangers
Jacob DeGrom was handed a tough-luck loss on Friday, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out seven in a 3-0 loss to the Dodgers. This is finally the vintage DeGrom everyone was waiting to see after he struggled in his past couple of outings where he gave up seven combined runs in 9.2 innings. He only induced eight whiffs on the night, but it's hard to complain about that considering he was facing a tough Dodgers offense. His fastball averaged 97.1 mph which was half a tick quicker than his season average, but still slower than the 99 mph averaged heater he showcased during his prime. He may have to deal with a learning curve while pitching with less velocity this season, but this start was a step in the right direction.
Cam Smith, 3B/OF, Astros
Cam Smith had the best game of his rookie season thus far, going 2 for 4 with two home runs, two runs, and four RBI. It was his second and third homers of the season, and his slash line now sits at .224/.296/.449. It hasn't been the best start for the top prospect, but there's still plenty of time for him to find his footing at the major league level. His underlying metrics don't look great, but some things that do stand out are his 74.5 mph bat speed (87th percentile) and 21.7% chase rate (82nd percentile). These suggest that he should have above-average raw power potential and at least isn't getting completely fooled at the plate. He still has too much upside to completely give up on and cast aside for fantasy.
Chandler Simpson, OF, Rays
Chandler Simpson was officially promoted to the big league roster from Triple-A on Friday. Although he didn't make it to Tampa Bay in time to play in the game, he figures to play a big role for the team moving forward. Simpson isn't your typical top prospect, as he does one thing and does it extremely well. He is one of the fastest players in the entire sport, stealing 104 bases in 110 games in the minors in 2024. He slashed .355/.410/.397 between High-A and Double-A last year, and impressed with a .301 average through 17 Triple-A games in 2025. That average isn't likely to translate to the majors, but the speed certainly will. Though, it's important to note that he has virtually no power in his game. He hit just one home run and 16 total extra-base hits in 2024. Still, he figures to be such a standout on the base paths that he is worth an add in every roto league.
