Brice Turang- 2B- MIL- Hot- Turang stole 3 bases yesterday, part of a franchise record 9 steals in the game. Overall he went 2-for-3 with a walk, sac fly, 3 runs and a RBI. Turang has 8 steals and seems poised to at least challenge his 50 swipes from 2024. He is slashing .322/.358/.437 for the season. Turang has a BABIP of .373, but his xBA was still .299 before yesterday so his results are not out of line. He also has shown more power, hitting 3 homers in 2025 when he had 7 in all of 2024. Turang has an EV of 92.5, Barrel% of 9.0% and HardHIt% of 49.3%, all significant improvements on last season. He has been hitting in the leadoff spot most often this season so will probably end up with more PAs. Turang is emerging as an all-around threat.
Austin Hays- OF- CIN- Hot- Hays was a big part of the Reds' explosion in Baltimore against his old team. He went 4-for-6 with a walk, double, RBI, and 4 runs. With Hays being 6 games into his delayed 2025 season start he is slashing .429/.467/.786 with 3 homers. His BB% is at 6.7% and his K% is at 20.0%. These are small sample size numbers but give hope that he will be closer to his 2023 slash line of .275/.325/.444 than his 2024 numbers of .255/.303/.396.
Charlie Morton- P- BAL- Danger- The Charlie Morton experiment in Baltimore is not going well. The 41-year-old was charged with 7 ERs in 2.1 IP yesterday. His ERA for the season went from 8.84 to 10.89. Morton has a K/9 of 9.15 but a BB/9 of 6.53. He has made 5 starts and given up at least 4 ERs in each of them. If the O's get an alternative Morton will probably lose his rotation spot.
Salvador Perez- C- KC- Cold- Perez has had a slow start, with a slash line of .182/.234/.295. His EV, Barrel%, and HardHit% are all improved over 2024 while his BABIP is .219. There isn't anything wrong with Perez that regression to the mean won't cure. His xBA is .297. This may be a buy-low opportunity.
Tanner Houck- P- BOS- Hot- Houck bounced back from a terrible outing his last time out. Yesterday he threw his second quality start in 5 outings, giving up 2 ERs on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7 in 6 IP. It's going to take a while for Houck's numbers to recover from his giving up 11 ERs in 2.1 IP on April 14th. His ERA currently stands at 7.66, but that doesn't reflect what should be expected from him on a normal basis.
