Jake Burger 3B MIA
The second half of 2023 saw Burger sizzle for the Marlins and 2024 is no different. A horrendous beginning has given way to delicious power: 14 HR and .333 BA over the last month. He's sporting a 92 MPH average exit velocity and a 14% Barrel rate, and the dude is simply very hot. He's hit 15 home runs since July 13th. Slap on some cheese and let Burger flame broil.
Michael Kopech RP LAD
Suddenly Saving in the city of Angels, Kopech is must-add both because he may be closing (always be closing) and, well, he ain't given up a run as a Dodger over 11 IP. The heat is on, as his average fastball velocity of 99 MPH can attest. Kopech K Rate is at a terrifying 33% and his XBA is a sustainably low .195. If he gets the ball in the 9th, you better scoop up Kopech for some sweet September Saves.
Garrett Crochet SP/RP CHW
Crochet went 4 IP with 9 Ks on Friday, further frustrating fantasy managers who may have dumped him after the White Sox held the bag at the deadline. The Sox sorta shut him down as a full-fledged starter, making Crochet a challenge to trust with roster spots at a premium. However, if 9 Ks are on the docket, he's worth slotting in your lineup regardless. Don't count on wins or quality starts for the rest of 2024, but enjoy the Ks as they come.
Junior Caminero 3B TAM
The surging slugger has a clear path to playing time in Tampa (yes, a rare thing) and he has taken advantage in the early going. He went 2 for 3 on Saturday with a stolen bag. Overall he has swiped 2 bags to go along with 3 hits in 10 ABs. He's added a BB and only struck out three times thus far, and has not looked overwhelmed at the highest level. His sky-high potential warrants a long leash for those looking for late-season help at the hot corner.
William Contrares C MIL
After a brief lull, Contreras is crushing it again. He went deep Saturday night again, pushing his week long total to 4 dingers, dominating MLB leaders Dodgers and Guardians. His StatCast remains red all over, highlighted by a 93 MPH exit velocity and a 50% Hard Hit %. He's a stud backstop and should continue to rake as he closes in on 20 HR, 90 runs scored, 80 RBI and a .280 BA that should warrant some down ballot MVP votes for Contreras the younger.
