Nathan Eovaldi- P- TEX- Hot- Eovaldi picked up his first win in 3 starts since coming off the IL. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and a walk while striking out 5 in 7 IP. In the 3 post-IL starts Eovaldi has allowed 5 runs in 15.2 IP on 13 hits and 1 walk while striking out 14. Nasty Nate seems fully recovered from his groin strain.
Logan O'Hoppe- C- LAA- Hot- O'Hoppe went 4-for-5 and slugged a walk off homer yesterday. He is 8-for-14 with a double, homer, 5 runs and 2 RBI in his last 4 games. For the season, O'Hoppe is slashing .269/.322/.446 with 8 homers in 208 PAs. His 90.9 EV, and 48.6% HardHIt% are solid. Although O'Hoppe's 24.4% K% isn't horrible, his 37.5% chase rate and 14.6% SwStr% are high. O'Hoppe is 24 and still seems to be developing.
Brandon Nimmo- OF- NYM- Idea- Nimmo is slashing a disappointing .221/.346/.381. His 12.6% BB% is still helping his OBP. As far as average and power goes, Nimmo is underperforming his metrics. Before yesterday his xBA was .278 and xSLG was .484. Nimmo has a 92.3 EV, 49.7% HardHIt % and 11.5% Barrel%. Nimmo has a likelihood of benefiting from regression.
Carson Spiers- P- CIN- Rise Value- Spiers threw 5.2 scoreless IP yesterday, allowing 4 hits and a walk while striking out 5. It was the fifth and longest long relief outing for Spiers this season. He bumped his K/9 for the season from 5.27 to 6.98. Spiers owns a 2.33 ERA and 2.52 FIP. His BB/9 is 1.86. Yesterday's performance has put Spiers in the conversation for a start the next time through the rotation. He has been a starter, reliever, and swing man in the minors so can plug in anywhere on the staff. It looks like Spires has earned a place somewhere with the big club.
Steven Kwan- OF- CLE- Hot- Kwan has had a scorching hot season, slashing .370/.436/.519. He has been helped a lot by a .390 BABIP. Still, while Kwan's xBA of .326 is well below his average, it's still pretty good. The main reason is his batted ball profile. Kwan's GB% has dropped from 45.0% in 2023 to 38.6%. His LD% and FB% have both increased. While Kwan's 85.1 EV and 20.3% HardHIt% are not exciting, he is putting a lot of balls in play without smashing as many into the ground. Kwan's chase rate is only 22.9% and SwStr% is a miniscule 2.6%. When pitchers throw strikes he has a Contact% of 97.3%. Kwan's 9.2% BB% adds to his OBP. His average will probably drop, but he can still provide value in that category as well as OBP.
