Tis the Season for promotions, call-ups, debuts & spot start rookies.
Tyler Locklear 1B/3B SEA
DEBUT: Locklear was called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday and he went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a run in his debut.. Locklear has been a fine hitter throughout his climb to the bigs, and he should get a lot of looks at CI while Ty France (heel) is on the IL. Locklear has a locked-in OPS above .900 with 9 dingers in AAA this year and has hit around .290 over the course of his last 500 ABs in the minor leagues. He could provide usable ABs and counting stats at CI if you are in need (and most of us are). As of press time, he's 1-3 wih another baseknock Monday night.
Adael Amador 2B COL
DEBUT: Amador went 1-for-3 with a stolen base Sunday against the Cardinals. Amador started at second base and hit eighth. The speedy 21 year old rookie led off the third inning with a single and stole second base. Amador should get a regular spot in the Mile High lineup while Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) is sidelined. His minor league batting average didn't crack .200 but he had swiped 22 bags in 25 tries whilst swatting 7 home runs. The learning curve should be steep, so don't pay for homers or hits, but if you need SBs, he's your huckleberry.
Hurston Waldrep SP ATL
In his DEBUT on Sunday, despite being named like the rich, annyoingly successful antagonist in a 1980s film, Waldrep allowed seven runs on four hits and four walks over 3.2 innings against the Nationals. Despite the ugly result, the 22-year-old prospect looked as advertised through 3 IP and should stick in the rotation for the time being. Should he make his next turn, his start would be next weekend when the Rays visit Atlanta. He has the prospect sheen despite this rough outing, so be sure to give him another look before you do anything hasty.
Drew Thorpe SP CHW
On the card to start and make his DEBUT vs the Mariners on Tuesday. Since the start of the 2023 season at A+ and AA, Thorpe is throwing it down: 199.1 IP, 2.17 ERA, .191 OBA, 238 K, 55 BB. Opponents have hit just .138 against his changeup since 2023. In 2024 at AAA, Thorpe has looked like this: 11 GS, 60 IP, 1.35 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, 7.6% BB, 25% K. Drew Thorpe has allowed just 1 run and 8 hits combined over his last 3 starts. He makes for an intriguing grab in Mixed Leagues and is a must-own in AL-Only.
Carlos F. Rodriguez SP MIL
Slated to start for the Crew on Tuesday vs. Toronto in his MLB DEBUT. His 2024 stats in AAA: 62.2 IP 66 K 1.29 WHIP currently in AAA. In 2023, he fired 128 IP with 158 Ks across AA and AAA combined with 2.88 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. The 6-foot hurler added an upper-80s cutter to go with his plus slider and near-elite changeup. His lack of velocity may not make him pop, but Rodriguez's kitchen-sink approach should get him starting looks in Milwaukee at some point this summer. His Scouting ranks: Curveball: 50 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 60. Could be an interesting streamer, but don't expect him to stick in MIL, where they shuttle pitchers between Nashville and Milwaukee on the Arnold Express.
*Bonus Non-Call-up
Jasson Dominguez OF NYY
Thanks to some guy named Judge, a hotshot called Soto and a young man who goes by Stanton, Dominguez is mired in the minors despite these recently accumulated numbers: .380 AVG | 1.119 OPS | 6 HR | 12 RBI. Soto's forearm issue has yet to be clarified, so a Jasson resurgence is not yet imminent in the Bronx. He is very worth stashing however, Stanton is due for a breakdown and Dominguez can't be contained in AAA forever.
