Brandon Woodruff- P- MIL- Hot- Woodruff had a successful return to the Milwaukee rotation. He last pitched in the majors on April 7 and then went down with a shoulder injury. Woodruff struck out the first 5 batters he faced, with his fastball hitting the mid to upper-90s. Overall Woodruff allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked no one, and struck out 9 in 5 IP. He threw 61 of his 85 pitches for strikes. Woodruff took the loss because the Brewers could only scratch out a single run yesterday. He looked ready to produce.
Lourdes Gurriel, Jr.- OF- ARI- Hot- Gurriel extended his current hitting streak to 8 games by going 3-for-5 with a double. During the streak, Gurriel has gone 12-for-30 with 3 homers, 3 doubles, 6 runs, and 4 RBI. For the season he is slashing .258/.306/.474 with 18 homers. Gurriel has an EV of 89.5 and HardHIt% of 46.6%, so his power level is matching expectations. His SwStr% of 7.0% and Contact% of 85.6% are excellent. Gurriel has a .270 BABIP so there is room for positive regression where his average is concerned.
Jose Urquidy- P- HOU- Cold- Urquidy came off the IL and seemed to run out of gas in the 4th inning. He gave up a solo homer in the first but did well in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Gleyber Torres singled to led off the 4th but Urquidy retired Giancarlo Stanton on a fly ball. That's when Urquidy hit a wall. He walked the next two batters on a total of 8 pitches and allowed another single before being removed. Overall Urquidy ended up getting charged with 5 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks while only striking out 1 in 3.1 IP. He threw 35 of 62 pitches for strikes. Urquidy gave up 5 runs in his last rehab start so he might not have been quite ready to try and stretch out.
Jordan Westburg- SS- BAL- Rookie- Westburg was called up in late June after hitting 18 homers in 301 PAs while slashing .295/.372/.567 at AAA Norfolk. With the Orioles Westburg has put up solid, though not spectacular numbers. He is slashing .274/.330/.442 with 2 homers in 103 PAs with Baltimore. He has played at 2B and 3B. Westburg has a 90.2 EV and 45.6% HardHit% so his power should come. His 11.2% SwStr% and 22.3% K% are not bad for a young slugger.
Jose Quintana- P- NYM- Hot- Quintana has been solid since beginning his injury-delayed season. He has thrown quality starts in 3 of his 4 outings and has a 3.42 ERA. In his other start he allowed 2 runs in 5 IP. Quintana has been a victim of lack of support which has resulted in a records of 0-3. He hasn't allowed a homer in his 23.2 IP which could explain his xFIP of 4.94. Quintana has a HR/9 of 0.43 in 165.2 IP last year, so his xFIP may not reflect how he has really pitched. He has a 2.80 FIP so his ERA is legitimate, if not a little high. Yesterday Quintana struck out 6 in 6 IP, which raised his K/9 to 6.08. Getting up to the 7.44 K/9 he posted in 2022 would be a realistic goal.
