Giancarlo Stanton- OF- NYY- Cold- Stanton went 0-for-2 with a strikeout to drop his average below the Mendoza line to .199. He is only hitting .157 with 3 homers since coming back from the IL on June 2. In that stretch his EV was 92.0 and HardHit% 45.0% before last night. Stanton's maxEV was 118.3. It looks like the main factor is a .193 BABIP. Stanton had a BB% of 8.2%, K% of 27.8%, chase rate of 28.9%, and Contact% of 75.0%. His SwStr% was 14.5% in this stretch. Those are all within his career norms. Stanton is in a slump but could break out at any time.
George Springer- OF- TOR- Stats - Springer went 2-for-5 with a HBP, homer, run, and 3 RBI last night. He is now slashing .269/.330/.422 with 13 homers and 13 steals. Springer's Statcast numbers are in line with those from last year, when he slashed .267/.342/.472 with 25 homers. He has had some poor luck this year, as his xBA is .276 and xSLG is .450. Regression should help in the second half. He has already almost equaled his stolen base total of 2022.
Craig Kimbrel- RP- PHI- Hot- After saving last night's game Kimbrel has converted all 14 of his save opportunities this season. Since the beginning of June, Kimbrel has allowed 1 run in 17 games pitched, covering 17 IP. He has struck out 25 and walked 3. Kimbrel has gone back to solid closer status. His 3.41 ERA is an artifact of some early season struggles.
Cody Bradford- P- TEX- Hot- Bradford picked up his first MLB win, holding the Nationals to 1 run on 5 hits and a walk while striking out 1 in 5 IP. He has been pitching depth for the Rangers, serving as a swing man and going back and forth between Arlington and AAA Round Rock. Bradford has a low-90s fastball, but has movement that makes it more effective. In a small MLB sample he has been hit hard, with an EV of 94.6 and HardHit% of 56.1% heading into last night. Bradford had a 1.82 ERA at AAA, but an xFIP of 5.87. With the Rangers, his ERA is at 4.39 and xFIP is 4.76. Bradford has good control, with a 2.70 BB/9, but needs to get more ground balls (23.2% GB% heading into last night) to make a case for more starts if the Rangers need more help in their rotation.
Alek Manoah- P- TOR- Caution- Last night Manoah pitched the way a lot of people were hoping he would when he was drafted in fantasy leagues. He came back from a minor league sojourn to toss 6 IP. Manoah allowed just a single run on 5 hits, walked none, and struck out 8. He threw 64 of his 91 pitches for strikes. In his last minor league start for the AA New Hampshire Fisher Cats on July 2 he walked 3 in 5 IP. One sparkling MLB start isn't enough to declare him worth what some people paid for him in the spring. In his 14 MLB starts this season Manoah had two scoreless games of 7 IP and still has an overall ERA of 5.91. So, while he can be impressive, he can also implode easily and more frequently.
