Hunter Harvey-Nationals-RP
Hunter Harvey pitched a perfect ninth for his 8th save of the year. He now has a 3.16 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 37 IP. Harvey has the skills to be a closer (29% K and 8% BB) and his most recent usage suggest that is taking over that role for the Nationals. He got all three of the Nationals save chances this week and was able to convert all three. If he is still on the waiver wire he needs to be picked up immediately.
Randy Arozarena-Rays-OF
Randy Arozarena was 2-4 with an HR (16), 2 R, and 1 RBI against the Marines. Arozarena is hitting .287 with 16 HR, 53 R, 58 RBI, and 9 SB. He continues to show good plate skills (24% K and 13% BB). Arozarena also has hit the ball much harder this year (16% Barrels and 50% Hardhit) which is the reason for the increase in power. He is also hitting the ball in the air more (41% FB) which makes his power breakout very real. He is now pacing towards a 30 HR/20 SB season instead of 20 HR/30 SB like last year.
Spencer Strider-Braves-SP
Spencer Strider went 6.2 IP and gave up 2 ER on 6 H, 1 BB, and 9 K's against the Marlins. Strider has a 3.66 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through 98.1 IP. He continues to post elite strikeout rates (39% K) which is backed up by elite swinging strike rates (20%) and CSW (35%). He hit his first rough patch in June (5.46 ERA and 1.39 WHIP). Despite the poor results, the underlying skills were still elite (33% K, 8% BB, and 3.48 xFIP). There is nothing to be worried about Strider as the skills are still elite and there are no signs of a potential issue moving forward. He is working his way through his first adjustment period at the major leagues which is to be expected even for elite starters. Strider gets a tough matchup against the Rays next week which figures to be an excellent matchup between two of the best teams in baseball.
Sonny Gray-Twins-SP
Sonny Gray went 6 IP and gave up 0 ER on 2 H, 3 BB, and 7 K's against the Orioles. Gray has a 2.50 ERA and 1.26 WHIP through 93.2 IP. The WHIP doesn't match the ERA which means that regression is likely coming. This is also shown in his SIERA (4.10 SIERA). Gray has posted solid skills (24% K, 9% BB, and 48% GB) so he isn't going to collapse totally. He has been fortunate on home runs (0.29 HR/9) compared to his career (0.86 HR/9) and men left on base (81% LOB vs. 74% LOB). This is all to say that Gray is likely to take a small step back but still be an above-average starter.
Ketel Marte-Diamondbacks-2B
Ketel Marte was 0-4 with 3 K's in the Diamondbacks loss to the Angels. Marte is hitting .285 with 15 HR, 61 R, 44 RBI, and 6 SB. Marte has stayed healthy and been productive for the Diamondbacks. He has excellent plate skills (10% BB and 16% K) to go along with strong quality of contact (10% Barrels, 41% Hardhit, and 113.5 mph maxEV). The Diamondbacks lineup has been much better than expected which has contributed to his strong counting stats in addition to his power/speed combo. Marte is a true five-category contributor at second base.
