Blake Snell- P- SD- Hot- Snell dominated the Rays last night, throwing 6 shutout IP and giving up 2 hits, walking 3, and striking out 12. He has 7 quality starts in his 14 outings, but those he hasn't gotten have mainly been due to Snell not lasting long enough. Snell has given up more than 3 runs twice. His ERA stands at 3.48, xFIP at 3.83, and K/9 at 11.16. With the Ks comes a bit of wildness, evidenced by his 4.80 BB/9. It's also what keeps him going deeper into games. Snell needed 102 pitches to get through his 6 IP yesterday. He also has had some tough luck where run support is concerned. That's shown in his 3-6 record. Snell has been healthy this year and if that continues he will provide solid fantasy value.
Bobby Miller- P- LAD- Cold- In his 5th MLB start, Miller showed he is human. The Giants unloaded on him, scoring 7 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks in 5.2 IP. Miller did strike out 5. His ERA went from 0.78 to 2.83. Miller's xFIP only rose from 3.22 to 3.69, so there was a good bit of luck baked into his early performance. Still, Miller was a highly-rated prospect for a reason. More than one reason, actually. His fastball sits in the upper-90s and touches triple digits frequently. Miller also has gained a good deal of control. He may have been rushed a little due to the status of the Dodgers rotation but was projected to make his MLB debut this year. A rocky start or even two doesn't diminish his long term value.
Daniel Vogelbach- 1B- NYM- Stats- If only Vogelbach's season was as good as his pre-season ad with Buck Showalter about the new rules. But with 3 homers in 150 PAs and a slash line of .210/.347/.323, it just isn't. Vogelbach did get his 3rd homer on Friday in his first game action in 9 days. His OBP is respectable due to a BB% of 17.3%. His Chase rate is only 19.5% and his SwStr% is 6.9%. Vogelbach's EV is 91.6% and HardHit% is 50.0%. His big problem is that he is hitting the ball into the ground instead of in the air, where it would have a chance to go out. Vogelbach has a GB% of 51.2%. In 2022 it was 37.7%. If Vogelbach can get some loft on the ball he could turn this around.
Samad Taylor- 2B- KC- Rookie- Taylor went 1-for-3 with 2 walks, 2 runs scored, and an RBI in his MLB debut. Taylor was voted best baserunner and fastest baserunner in the International League in 2022. He stole 34 bases at AAA Omaha before being called up. Taylor was slashing .304/.409/.463 in 291 PAs when promoted. An infielder in the minors, Taylor played LF yesterday. A team like the Royals don't have much to lose by playing a young prospect and Taylor could provide steals, at the least, if they give him a long look.
Elvis Peguero- P- MIL- Stats- Peguero bounced back from allowing 2 runs on Friday by tossing a scoreless inning yesterday. He has allowed runs in only 3 of his 22 appearances and posted 5 holds. Peguero's 2.77 ERA has been the result of some good fortune as his x FIP is 4.55. He has been getting higher leverage appearances out of the Brewers' bullpen. Peguero hasn't yet been able to translate his better-than-10-K-per-IP in the minors to major league results. In leagues that count holds, he has the potential to add in that category. He has 3 holds since June 8th.
