Aaron Civale, Cleveland Indians - Aaron Civale pitched into the ninth but didn't record an out, so he finished the outing with one run over eight innings and six strikeouts. He allowed just six hits and one walk but did allow a lot of hard contact with 11 balls over 95 MPH. Civale's ERA is down to 3.05 and he's struck out 51 batters over 65 innings this year. His hard-hit rate is in the middle of the pack, but he does an outstanding job at limiting barrels which helps the overall line.
Clint Frazier, New York Yankees - Clint Frazier went 2-for-4 at the plate and that gives him multiple hits in back-to-back games. He also has multi-hit efforts in three of his last five games. He swiped a pair of bags in Monday's game for his first two in the season. Frazier has taken a significant step back but with all of the injuries in the Yankees outfield, Frazier should continue to get plenty of reps in the outfield. He totes a 90th percentile walk rate so his approach at the plate seems to be working, but he's just not making enough significant contact to get his stats up at this point.
Brad Keller, Kansas City Royals - Brad Keller allowed one run over seven innings against the Rays. He struck out seven batters and walked four, but was able to scatter them. Keller didn't really generate a ton of whiffs in the outing with a 24% rate, and his 26% CSW is slightly below league average as well. Keller's been solid in the month of May with a 3.58 ERA and essentially a strikeout per inning, a huge step up from the 9.00 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 18 innings. He's also cut down his walk rate significantly this month, but his hard-hit rate has taken a jump up this month.
Nick Madrigal, Chicago White Sox - Nick Madrigal went 3-for-4 at the plate, all singles, and was caught stealing on the basepaths. Madrigal's average is up to .289 for the year and he's posting a .726 OPS as there's no extra-base power here, and he's not really stealing any bases either which was the other intriguing part of the profile. He's dropped from a .316 average over the first month of the season to a .263 average over May, but he's started to hit more consistently later with three multi-hit games over his last seven games.
Jared Walsh, Los Angeles Angels - Jared Walsh hit homer 11 on the year and he continues to absolutely smash with a .970 OPS across 183 plate appearances. In addition to the power, he's also swiped a pair of bags. Walsh is taking every advantage of the team designating Albert Pujols for assignment and he's running away with the first base job for the team. His wOBA is in the top 4% of the league and while his batted ball numbers aren't going to blow you away, it's still making up for an extremely impressive season.
