Joc Pederson- OF- CHC- Idea- Pederson had reverse splits in the short season of 2020. That was unusual for him, as he posted a slash line of .252/.349/.571 against RHP in the last full season of 2019. Given a more normal Pederson, he has the edge in the matchup with Mitch Keller, who has allowed a career slash line of .321/.412/.419 against LH hitters. Value Play- Draft Kings salary $3600
Zach McKinstry- 2B- LAD- Hot- McKinstry entered the lineup as part of a double switch. In his first AB he got his first major league homer. It was an inside the park variety only because of a huge effort by Raimel Tapias to reach well over the fence and get it in the webbing of his glove. Then Tapias slammed into the wall. Instead of having the ball slip out and continue over the fence, or keeping it in the glove for the out, it ricocheted back into the stadium. Tapias was dazed and McKinstry ran around the bases and scored standing up before anyone made a play. McKinstry is 2-for-3 on the young season. He is in a utility role with the Dodgers and could start getting more playing time if his bat continues to produce in the appearances he does get. McKinstry has developed better bat speed and loft as he has progressed through the LA organization, so could see his role expand.
Zack Wheeler- P- PHI- Hot- If his first start of 2021 is any indication, Wheeler's drop in K/9 last year was an aberration. He held the Braves scoreless in 7 IP, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 10. Wheeler threw only 90 pitches, 62 of them strikes. That is a very good indicator for him early in the season. It doesn't matter much in the fantasy world, but Wheeler also helped himself by going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, run, and 2 RBI.
Adam Wainwright- P- STL- Cold- Wainwright had decent control, allowing 1 walk and throwing 36 of 56 pitches for strikes. However, he was very hittable, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits and striking out just 1 in 2.2 IP. Wainwright had a very strong spring, ending with a 2.42 ERA across 22.1 IP and striking out 21, but it didn't carry through to his first start. He posted solid numbers last season (3.15 ERA, 7.40 K/9, 1.05 WHIP) so this might have just been an outlier.
Jazz Chisholm- 2B- MIA- Stats- If you are looking for steals you might want to check out the Marlins. Miami has swiped 6 bases in the first 3 games this season. They stole 4 yesterday. Two of the thefts belonged to Chisholm, who swiped 2nd and then 3rd after reaching on a walk. The Marlins are high on his speed. If he can get on base (he's hitting .200 but has an OBP of .333 because he has walked twice) Chisholm should have chances to steal some bases.
