Brian Goodwin- OF- LAA- Idea- Over his career Goodwin has had reverse splits, posting a slash line of .268/.342/.500 against southpaws. Marco Gonzales experience reverse splits himself in 2019, with LH hitters having a .302/.341/.478 slash line against him. That makes this matchup an opportunity to get a DFS bargain. Value play- Draft Kings salary $3200
Lucas Giolito- P- CHW- Hot- Giolito had a much better performance in is second start of the season than he did in his debut. Yesterday he threw 6 shutout IP, giving up 4 hits, walking 2, and striking out 6. Last year Giolito tended to throw very well but would toss the occasional clunker. He had some injury issues in the first month of the season and then was shut down early at the end of the year. In between Giolito recorded 17 quality starts in 25 starts. Of the other games he gave up 5 runs once, 6 runs twice and 7 runs in another outing. Overall the results were good as Giolito ended up with a 3.41 ERA, 3.43 FIP, and K/9 of 11.62. He threw 53 of his 85 pitches for strikes yesterday, so there was still a bit of the control issues he showed in his debut when he threw 51 of 80 pitches for strikes. Even so, Giolito did only have the 2 walks and his strikeouts were at one per inning, which was an improvement. Given his history, it's not time to yank Giolito with a short leash.
Brandon Workman- RP- BOS- Cold- Workman converted his first save opportunity of the season but it was touch and go. He allowed a run to the Mets on 2 hits and 2 walks. Workman did strike out 2. Only 16 of his 30 pitches were for strikes. Workman allowed a hit but no runs in an inning of work the day before in his season debut. He assumed the role of closer almost by default but if he doesn't improve fairly quickly the Red Sox will probably try to figure out other options.
Lance Lynn- P- TEX- Hot- Lynn has yet to allow a run this season and has pitched long enough in each of his two outings to come away with quality starts. Yesterday he went 6 scoreless IP, allowing just 1 hit, walking 2, and striking out 8. Lynn's control improved over his first start. He threw 72 of his 102 pitches for strikes. In Lynn's season debut 64 of his 108 pitches were strikes. He posted a career high 10.63 K/9 last season and is ahead of that pace early on this year with a 12.75 mark. After an off year in 2018 Lynn bounced back last year and is picking up where he left off.
Manuel Margot- OF- TB- Cold- Margot is having a very rough start. He went 0-for-4 in his first start since Sunday. Margot's only hit so far this season was a double on Sunday. He now has an average of .067 and a BABIP of .077. Margot has walked as many times as he has struck out (twice each.) With the speed he possesses (20 steals last year) it's hard to believe that his bad luck will continue much longer. Manuel may see his playing time take a hit in the meantime.
