Zach Plesac-Indians-SP
Zach Plesac went 6 IP and gave up 0 ER on 5 H, 2 BB, and 7 K's against the Rangers. Plesac has pitched well in his short time in the majors. He has a 3.13 ERA and 1.15 WHIP through 72 IP. His 5.32 SIERA suggests that things may not continue to be as great as they seem now. The concern is that he doesn't miss many bats (17% K and 10% SwStr) and his control has been suspect (9% BB). Plesac has benefited from a .221 BABIP and 82% LOB. He will more than likely gets two starts next week with the first one being against the Red Sox which is less than ideal.
Jose Ramirez-Indians-3B
Jose Ramirez was 3-6 with 2 HR, 3 R, and 3 RBI against the Rangers. Ramirez has been red hot since the beginning of July (.311 AVG, 9 HR, 23 R, 27 RBI, and 4 SB). This hot streak has risen his overall line to .245 with 16 HR, 58 R, 60 RBI, and 23 SB. It is not what you expected from him coming into this year but overall he has still been an above-average fantasy asset. The underlying skills are still solid with 13% K and 9% BB with 39% hard contact. He has just enough time to bring back close to first-round value if he continues to stay hot the rest of the way which is looking more likely given his recent success.
Yuli Gurriel-Astros-1B
Yuli Gurriel was 2-4 with 1 HR, 1 R, and 8 RBI against the Rockies. He is now hitting .298 with 23 HR, 62 R, 80 RBI, and 4 SB. The underlying skills have taken a step forward this year. He has a plus hit tool (11% K) and has hit the ball harder this year (39%) which has led to an increase in power (.234 ISO). The Astros lineup is loaded so the counting stats are going to be there in addition to power and plus hit tool. Gurriel is in the midst of a career year and the skills behind it say he can keep it up the rest of the way.
Tim Anderson-White Sox-SS
Tim Anderson was 4-4 with 3 R and 1 BB against the Tigers. On the year, he is hitting .323 with 12 HR, 46 R, 39 RBI, and 15 SB. The average is what sticks out given his aggressive approach (21% K, 2 % BB) but he has benefited from a .370 BABIP. He is on pace for a 20 HR/20 SB season with a .300+ AVG despite missing time with injury. In the future, he is unlikely to hit for a high average and this is likely going to go down as his career season. Anderson's value has never been higher.
Eric Sogard-Rays-2B
Eric Sogard was 1-2 with a walk and stolen base against the Blue Jays. Sogard has been excellent this year when in the lineup. He is hitting .303 with 12 HR, 50 R, 36 RBI, and 7 SB. The Rays are going to play Sogard against RHP which gives him enough value to be usable in mixed leagues. The underlying skills (15% K and 9% BB) give credence to what he has done so far. He is hitting the ball harder and into the air more often which has led to an increase in power. Believe in Sogard knowing that the Rays traded for him and their recent run of success is to be believed in.
