Dylan Bundy- P- BAL- Idea- Could the Orioles end up actually winning the first series of the year with the Yankees? Part of that depends on whether Bundy can overcome his wretched spring (7.89 ERA) and perform as he did against RH hitting in 2018. Bundy posted a .228/.277/.325 slash line against them and the Yankees have a heavily tilted lineup with lots of RH hitters. At his price, Bundy has a good chance of providing a bargain. Value Play- Draft Kings salary- $6500
Nate Karns- P- BAL- FYI- Karns made his first major league appearance since May of 2017 as the Orioles joined the list of teams determined to mess up fantasy baseball. Karns, who was primarily a starter before injuries caused him to miss all of 2018, was used as an opener. He threw 2 shutout IP, allowing 1 hit and also striking out 1. Karns had some issues with the strike zone, walking 3 batters. He probably won't make enough of this type of appearance to pick up any fantasy value, even though Baltimore is probably going to go the opener route at least once more before Alex Cobb returns from injury. It's not like the Orioles are going to provide any of their pitchers with a lot of wins anyway, whether they last 2 or 6 IP in a start.
Jake Odorizzi- P- MIN- Hot- Maybe Odorizzi will return to the form that made him a very promising starter. If he produces like he did yesterday, that will be the case. Odorizzi struck out 11 in 6 IP where he gave up a lone run on a lone hit, which was a homer. He walked 2. The Ks were more than he collected in any start in 2018. Odorizzi has not posted a FIP lower than 4.00 since 2015, his second year as a full time starter. When he has been on he has been very good, but Odorizzi has been plagued by inconsistency. IN 2017, only 11 of his 28 starts were of the quality variety. It got worse last year as 10 of 32 were quality starts and 3 of those came in his 6 April outings. Yesterday's performance was very good, but Odorizzi will need to repeat it to make him worthy of taking a spot on your roster.
Joey Wendle- 2B- TB- Cold- Wendle is still looking for his first hit of the season after going 0-for-3 yesterday. He had a breakthrough campaign in 2018, posting an average of .300 in his first season as a regular. It was the highest average of those qualifying for rookie status. Wendle was helped by a .353 BABIP, so some regression would be in order this season.
Joey Gallo- OF- TEX- Stats- Mark this date on your calendar. We are two games into the season and Gallo has a Batting EYE of 1.000, with 2 Ks and 2 BBs. He didn't make it past game 1 of last year. Yesterday, Gallo got his first hit of the season. It was a 3-run homer that won the game for the Rangers. The homers are what Gallo is around for, in real and fantasy baseball. If he could make a habit of cutting down his Ks and increasing his BBs his value would soar.
