Johan Camargo, Atlanta Braves - Camargo had a huge game in Toronto going 4-for-5 at the plate, falling just a triple shy of the cycle. Camargo launched his seventh homer of the year, this one a grand slam, and is on right around the same pace of HR's that he had in his 50 games for the Braves last season. Camargo is playing every day for the Braves at third base, but the Braves are also currently linked to most of the third baseman on the market as the team ultimately views him in a super utility role over playing third every day. He's still an NL-Only guy for me right now based on skillset and the rumors swirling around the team.
Dominic Smith, New York Mets - When your team is littered with injuries and 75% of your active roster is a corner of the field player, this is what you get. Mets fans, says hello to your new left fielder Dominic Smith. Jay Bruce was officially placed on the DL on Tuesday and it sounds like Smith is going to get the primary playing time in right field while Bruce and Yoenis Cespedes is out. Smith is off to another dreadful start at the plate with a 51 wRC+ in 24 plate appearances, and this move also likely will have a negative effect on the Mets' pitchers as I can't seem to find anyone who thinks this will go swimmingly.
Jason Vargas, New York Mets - Vargas got pummeled by the Rockies in Coors on Tuesday as he couldn't escape the second third inning allowing nine hits, seven runs, and three homers in 2.1 innings. Vargas has been awful this season and now boast an 8.60 ERA with a 6.54 FIP as he isn't striking many batters out, generating a ton of ground balls, and also is allowing a near 40% hard-hit rate. He's likely allowing more homers than he should with a 21.2% HR/RB rate after Coors did its damage, but even entering the game it was at 17% and his batted ball profile shows he's just getting crushed. He's an avoid for me, across the board.
Rich Hill, Los Angeles Dodgers - Hill survived his first start back off the DL tossing six shutout innings while earning a no-decision in the game. He struck out six batters and walked just two while also allowing three hits. Hill has struggled this season with injuries (like he does most seasons) but usually, he's been a fantasy asset when he's on the mound and he isn't doing that this year. There's a report that he has a mechanical change coming off the DL, but it'll take more than a one-game sample to decide if that's what helps him pitch so well Tuesday against the Cubs. He's still in a streaming type of position for me based on injury risk and performance.
Joc Pederson, Los Angeles Dodgers - Pederson continued his absurd June with another home run on Tuesday giving him nine on the year and it was his eighth of the month. He currently is sporting a 328 wRC+ for the month but the one caveat is he's literally doing all of his damage against right-handed pitching. I mean literally. He has a -7 wRC+ against southpaws this year as opposed to his 163 wRC+ against righties. While that being a strong platoon essentially the Pederson is going I could get behind adding him in some mixed leagues that use daily lineups because you don't want him in there if it's a lefty on the mound.
