Blake Snell(SP-TB): Blake Snell won after allowing two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over seven shutout innings vs. the Mariners. Some day I believe Blake Snell will be a solid number two fantasy option, and he flashed that kind of potential today when he limited the free passes and stayed ahead of hitters for most of the day. A 52.7 percent first pitch strike rate and 12 percent walk rate have been holding him back, but the stuff (94 MPH fastball. 85 MPH changeup) is intriguing. He's on my list for mid-round pitchers to consider heading into 2017.
Eddie Rosario(OF-MIN): Eddie Rosario went 2-for-5 with a grand slam vs. the D-backs to move his season line to .303/.342/.511 with 17 homers. He has posted an incredible .283 ISO in the second half while improving his EYE from .29 to .38. He has been a bit lucky with a .342 BABIP, but his 32 percent hard hit rate coupled with his improvements against lefties tell me that he's fairly legit and can be trusted as a solid number four OF in standard leagues.
Rougned Odor(2B-TEX): Rougned Odor went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and one walk Sunday vs. the White Sox. While Odor is due for a positive course correction with his .239 BABIP, I see him having a ways to go to reach his full potential. His 40 percent chase rate and four percent walk rate leave him prone to prolonged slumps; however, he can catch fire with the best of him with his 38 percent hard hit rate too. He's a must start down the stretch, but until he shows a more mature approach at the plate, I fear the 23-year old may be overvalued in re-draft leagues.
Xander Bogaerts(SS-BOS): Xander Bogaerts went 1-for-3 with two runs vs. the Yankees. While he continues to maintain an 80 percent contact rate and score plenty of runs (65) in a loaded Red Sox lineup, his seven homers significantly hurt in today's power rich environment. The fact that his fly ball rate has dipped back below 30 percent seriously concerns me, especially considering he doesn't steal enough bases (11) to offset the loss in power. He has shown the ability to adjust his swing, so I'll be watching closely in Spring Training. For now, I'm bearish on him in keeper leagues.
Carlos Rodon(SP-CHW): Carlos Rodon ($7700) looks like a solid tournament play today for his matchup at home vs. the Twins. The left-hander has allowed seven earned runs over his last four starts with a 28:6 K:BB ratio, as pitching coach Don Cooper has hinted that he and Rodon have figured out his mechanics to help him find more consistency. Minnesota is 21st in total offense against left-handers, and they'll be missing their biggest bat with Miguel Sano hitting the 10-day DL. I love the upside and the price in a slate that doesn't feature a bona fide ace.
