Wilson Ramos, Tampa Bay Rays - Wilson Ramos homered for the second straight game in a 3-for-5 effort at the plate. This was Ramos' first multi hit game since July 6th as it's been a season to forget for the catcher since coming off the DL after his ACL tear last year. Ramos has been plagued by a little bit of bad BABIP luck with a 30% hard hit rate but just a .200 BABIP. Ramos' batted balls have been very different this year though as he's pulling the ball 45% of the time combined with a 32% fly ball rate, something we've seen a lot of hitters start doing in selling out for power. At his best though (2016), Ramos had a beautiful 38.3/34.2/27.5% spray chart (pull/middle/oppo) with a 20% line drive rate.
Carlos Santana, Cleveland Indians - Carlos Santana recorded his third straight multi-hit game Tuesday, but this time added a little more flair to his game launching a pair of homers. Santana is having a solid season at the plate with his .248/.353/.447 line with 18 homers and 63 RBI. He isn't going to post the outstanding season he had last year when he belted 34 homers, but his season does look like a bit of an improvement on his 2015 season where he hit 19 bombs with a .231/.357/.395 batting line.
Joey Gallo, Texas Rangers - Joey Gallo continues to one have one of the most fun batting lines in recent memory as he launched his 34th homer of the year Tuesday and is still owning a 128 wRC+ and a .208/.324/.566 triple slash. Gallo almost empitimizes the "three true outcomes" approach as he currently has 34 homers compared to 35 other hits that aren't homers (and 15 of those are extra bases hits), a darn near 40% strikeout rate and a 13.1% walk rate. He hits a remarkable amount of balls in the air at 57% and he's also pulling balls a 49.5% rate which makes it not surprising that he hits for so much power and so little average.
Gary Sanchez, New York Yankees - Gary Sanchez extended his current hit streak to seven games Tuesday while launching his 21st homer of the season. It's his second day in a row with a homerun and he has four in this small hit streak he's started up. Sanchez's lefty righty splits are very interesting because although his AVG is 30 points higher off of righties, his slugging percentage and on base percentage are nearly identical, getting him a wRC+ that's almost exactly the same too. Now Sanchez has 16 homers off righties against just five off lefties, but basic five homers in 70 at bats vs 15 homers ins 245 at bats is right about the same rate.
Jonathan Schoop, Baltimore Orioles - Jonathan Scoop is having an unbelievable season posting a 135 wRC+ and hit his 26th homer of the season Tuesday which is a new career high for the second baseman. Schoop's fly ball rate and pull rate are both almost identical to last season, so the HR jump for him can be seen very easily.... He's crushing the baseball this year. His hard hit rate is up almost 10% over what it was last year and almost matches what he posted in 2015 when he hit 15 homers in 86 games (30 HR pace). 30 homers is a lock for him the season and with another solid month or so we could see him reach the 35 homer level.
