In The Field
Freddie Freeman may not be activated from the DL until after the All-Star break, depending on how his rehab assignment goes. He is expected to play third base upon his return, freeing up Matt Adams to continue his hot hitting at first base. Dexter Fowler got good news from his heel specialist and is expected to return to the Cardinals this week, although it's unclear whether they'll send him on a rehab assignment before he's reinstated. Kolten Wong remains a few weeks away from a return from his triceps strain. Aledmys Diaz was optioned to Triple-A to work through his struggles, and Greg Garcia will hold down second base for the time being. The Cubs activated Ben Zobrist from the DL and optioned Mark Zagunis to Triple-A. Ian Happ will continue to get starts in the outfield while Jason Heyward is out, and although he's going on a rehab assignment, it's unclear when Heyward will be able to return to the lineup. Miguel Montero was DFA'd after ranting about Jake Arrieta's shortcomings publicly, and the Cubs called up catching prospect Victor Caratini to take his place. He won't get enough playing time to make a difference in seasonal leagues, but he's a name to file away in dynasty formats due to his strong hit tool that comes with some power as well.
On The Mound
Bartolo Colon was designated for assignment by the Braves, which will allow Sean Newcomb to continue starting. He's impressed so far, and should be owned in all formats. Chase Anderson hit the DL with an oblique strain and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Milwaukee is expected to juggle spot starters with his rotation slot for the time being, but Brandon Woodruff would be of deep league consideration if he makes the rotation upon his own return from the DL. Kyle Hendricks remains out with tendinitis in his right hand, and won't return until late July.
In The Bullpen
Mark Melancon hit the DL again with with a pronator strain in his pitching elbow, and this time he could be out of commission for more than a couple weeks. Hunter Strickland got the first save in his place, but that was with Sam Dyson unavailable, and Dyson was the one that got the save Saturday and is the favorite to hold down the job moving forward.
