Jacob Faria, SP, TB
Faria made his major-league debut for the Rays on Wednesday and it was quite successful, as he allowed 1 ER on 3 hits and 2 BB's in 6.1 IP to go along with 5 K's. Faria had an amazing 12.89 K/9 in AAA this season, although he has struggled with walks somewhat throughout his MiLB career. The strikeout potential alone though makes him worthy of fantasy consideration.
Buck Farmer, SP, DET
Farmer pitched another scoreless outing against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing just 3 hits and a BB in 6.2 IP while striking out 5. This wasn't as impressive as his 11 K performance against the White Sox in his season debut, but still not too shabby. Farmer was pitching pretty well in AAA this season with a 56:12 K:BB through 60.2 IP, and he now has a 2.63 xFIP through his two big-league starts. Minimizing the BB's will be key for him as he struggled with that last year allowing 20 BB's in 29.1 IP with the Tigers, but so far good in 2017. It's still too small of a sample, but he's on the fantasy radar now.
Kyle Seager, 3B, SEA
Seager hit his 7th HR of the season on Wednesday, and his second in as many days. He's still a bit behind his pace from the past few seasons when he reached at least 25 HR's three years in a row. But his FB% is actually a career-high 47.6% and his 37.4% Hard% is also above average, so you would expect his 7.5% HR/FB to rise closer to his 11.2% career mark. He has a very good chance to reach the 20 HR plateau for the 6th straight season.
Justin Smoak, 1B, TOR
Will Justin Smoak ever slow down? With two more homeruns on Wednesday, Smoak now has 12 dingers in his last 25 games and is one behind Aaron Judge for the major-league HR lead. Perhaps just as impressive as his power explosion is the fact that he's hitting .291 as believe it or not, Smoak he has never even managed to reach .240 in any of his previous 7 seasons. But right now, he boasts career bests in K% and SwStr% and that has made all the difference. The 45-HR pace is unlikely to continue, as his 26.6% HR/FB will probably regress, but Smoak is looking a lot more like a complete hitter.
Alex Avila, C, DET
First check to make sure Avila is in the Tiger's lineup but if he is, he makes for an excellent DFS play as a catcher. Avila has torched RHP's this season with a .347 BA, 1.182 OPS, and 10 HR's in 101 AB's against them this season. He's also hitting .446 at home. On Thursday, the Tigers host the Angels and face RHP J.C. Ramirez. DraftKings Value Play Salary $3,600.
