Eddie Rosario- OF- MIN- Idea- Rosario hit all 10 of his 2016 homers in 271 PAs against RH pitching. James Shields had slash lines against LH hitting of .284/.372/.494 in 2016 and .278/.398/.522 in 2015. Shields has allowed 2 homers in 4,1 IP against LH hitting so far this season. This gives Rosario a solid chance at a good game. Value play- Draft Kings salary $3500
Justin Verlander- P- DET- Cold- After two impressive starts to begin the season Verlander threw a clinker yesterday. He allowed 9 runs on 11 hits and a walk while striking out 4 in just 4 IP. Three of those hits were homers. It is definitely not time to panic, though. Last year Verlander gave up 7 runs on 10 hits in 4.1 IP in his second start of the season so this is not unprecedented. For the rest of 2016 he gave up more than 3 earned runs in only 3 games and none after June 16th.
Jose Ramirez- 2B- CLE- Hot- Ramirez was projected to have 16 homers this season. After slugging 2 yesterday he's already at 3 in 11 games played. Ramirez went 4-for-4 with a walk and 6 RBI against Detroit. His .341 average is slightly inflated by a .314 BABIP, but it's not outrageous. Ramirez has walked 5 times and only struck out 4. His hard hit % has jumped from 26.8% in 2016 to 38.2% so far this season while his FB% has gone from 36.3% to 44.1%. Ramirez is only 24 years old so this advance may be a real growth into legitimate potential. He is eligible at 2B now and will likely get moved once Jason Kipnis is ready to return. That will only increase the fantasy value of Ramirez.
Nori Aoki- OF- HOU- Hot- Aoki has gone 2-for-4 in each of his last 3 games to raise his average to .375. He also stole his first base of the season. Aoki has earned more playing time than expected so far this season. He is enjoying a .348 BABIP so he is likely to see his playing time fall with regression to the mean. Aoki's SB totals have fallen every year since he made his major league debut in 2012 and swiped 30. At age 35, Aoki may end up posting his usual average in the .280s but he probably won't contribute much else to a fantasy team.
Sean Manaea- P- OAK- Stats- Manaea had definite issues with finding the plate yesterday, throwing 53 of 98 pitches for strikes and walking 5 in 5 IP. On the plus side he didn't allow any hits and struck out 6 in his appearance and allowed 2 runs but only 1 earned. Overall this was a positive outing for Manaea. He had only walked 4 in 11.1 IP in his first 2 starts, so this was an outlier especially when taking his 2.30 BB/9 in his rookie season last year into account. Manaea has had some bad luck in the early going, as his 5.51 ERA but 3.67 FIP shows. He has only allowed 1 homer and struck out 20 batters in 16.1 IP in 2017. That is a good indicator in seeing if Manaea is panning out into what the A's are looking for.
