Daniel Descalso- SS- COL- Idea- Descalso is available at a bargain price to play either SS or 1B. His slash line of .273/.377/.429 against RH pitching is solid, if not spectacular. Matched up against Luis Perdomo and his .316/.369/.498 slash line against LH hitting, though, and Descalso looks better. Value play- Draft Kings salary $2800
Clayton Kershaw- P- LAN- Great Player- Kershaw returns from the DL after only one rehab start for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga. That outing was Saturday and was impressive. Kershaw threw 34 pitches, 23 of them strikes, and struck out 5 of the 9 batters he faced. That was the minimum he could have faced in the 3 IP he was scheduled to pitch. Kershaw then made another 15 pitches in the bullpen. Don't expect him to get stretched out too much more tonight but it looks like he is ready to perform well for as long as he is in the game.
Trea Turner- SS- WAS- Rookie- Turner extended his latest hitting streak to 5 games by going 1-for-4. Even with 21 steals in only 51 major league games this year his .404 BABIP shows a lot of luck falling his way. Turner is due for some regression to the mean. He is going to have a solid career but his current .344 average isn't something that can be expected to hold.
Jose Peraza- 2B- CIN- FYI- Over his last 9 games Peraza has played 4 different positions plus made a pinch hitting appearance. He has also either collected no hits or had a multihit game. Peraza's bat is looking major league caliber, but he has been the recipient of some good fortune. His .379 BABIP is high, even for someone with his speed. He'll be good in 2017, but probably won't carry the .338 average he currently owns.
Ivan Nova- P- PIT- Hot- Nova needed only 94 pitches to throw a complete game yesterday. He allowed only 1 run on 6 this while walking no one and striking out 4. Nova is undefeated in 7 starts as a Pirate, with a 5-0 record. Yesterday was his second complete game for Pittsburgh. Although Nova's K/9 has decreased slightly since he was traded his control has become almost otherworldly. He has only walked 2 batters in 46.1 IP. Speaking of otherworldly the question is there as to whether Nova just needed a change of scenery or whether there is an empty pod somewhere in his locker and he has been taken over by an alien being. Keep a watch on his last starts of 2016 before making a judgment for next season.
