Gregory Polanco, Pittsburgh Pirates - Gregory Polanco launched homers 18 and 19 Tuesday in a 3-for-4 game at the dish. He's had fantastic season overall and has been a real breakout player, but I'm worried about the numbers that he might put up in September because he's been declining for each of the last three months. In May he had his best month hitting .317, but since he's dropped to .272-.243-.190 in each of the last three months which doesn't make September look great if that continues. August appears to have been fueled by a bit of bad luck though as he has a hard contact rate of 37.5% and 39.2% for the second half so he may just simply be getting unlucky.
Jon Gray, Colorado Rockies - After three straight rough starts Jon Gray bounced back with a great game against the Brewers despite not factoring into the decision. He threw six innings allowing two hits and four runs while striking out 10 which is the most he's had in a game since June 5th. Gray has managed to pitch well this season despite the fact he throws at Coors Field for half his innings this year. We may be overstating exactly how he's "beaten" Coors as he has a 5.11 ERA at home with a triple slash of .250/.305/.429 and a wOBA. I guess in terms of what pitchers normally do at Coors he is beating it, but he's managed to not being horrific at home while pitching fairly well on the road as well combining for a solid season overall.
Ivan Nova, Pittsburgh Pirates - Ivan Nova has had a mixed back of results since being acquired by the Pirates, but the one thing that has been outstanding is his control has this was the first game where he had walked someone in over 20 innings as a Pirate. In this game he gave up one run in a complete game with six punchouts which also was the most that he's had in Pittsburgh. While Nova's walks rate is extremely nice, his fantasy upside is limited because of his less than steller strikeout rate and elevated HR/FB rate. He does get ground balls at a good rate though which is vital to his success if he isn't going to miss a lot of bats.
AJ Pollock, Arizona Diamondbacks - While it was reported Monday that AJ Pollock would be activated this week, the Diamondbacks made it known that the day is likely to be Friday where we see Pollock come off the DL. This is fantastic news for those that kept him stashed on the DL (myself included) that we'll get almost a over a full month of Pollock after it seemed very grim as to whether we'd see him at all this year. Take one look in all your leagues to see if he's still available for some reason.
Carlos Martinez, St. Louis Cardinals DFS $9,000 vs Mets - The New York Mets are 29th in batting average against righties and are 25th in wRC+ against them and the Cardinals are sending Carlos Martinez out to the mound to face them Wednesday. Martinez dominated the Astros last time out over 7.0 innings, and he makes for a nice value at $9,000 when Jose Fernandez is likely going to be in most lineups that you see on Wednesday. The Mets team as a whole doesn't have great success against Martinez slugging .389, but of their five extra base hits in 78 ABs three have left the yard.
