Gary Sanchez, New York Yankees - Gary Sanchez continues to annihilate MLB pitching launching his 11th homer in 23 games and he's homered in three straight games this week. What else is there to say about Sanchez at this point? He's already eclipsed the number of homers he launched in AAA before his callup, has a 42% hard contact rate, and he's already gotten to a 2.1 WAR in just 23 games. The homer pace obviously won't continue, but beyond just saying that in general he's hitting almost all grounders or flyballs, and once the flyballs stop leaving the yard we'll see the pace drop. Obviously. Continue to roll with him all through the playoffs.
Jose Quintana, Chicago White Sox - Jose Quintana tossed a gem Saturday, throwing 7.2 innings allowing just five hits and a lone earned run. He struck out eight against a single walk in the game, which was his 11th win of the season. This is the first season in Quintana's career where he won more than nine games and he's continued to drop his ERA with a strong second half which now sits at 2.77 (3.43 FIP) which is also a career best. Weirdly enough Quintana is allowing the most hard contact of his career to his point, but with the success he's had to this point there's no reason to think he won't finish the season strong.
Dallas Kuechel, Houston Astros - In a season with no so many highlights, Dallas Kuechel has now turned in back-to-back great starts with 7.0 innings of two runs ball Saturday with four strikeouts. He hasn't had the season we were all expecting but he's much better in the second half which is just in time for the fantasy playoffs. In the second half Kuechel has a 4.17 ERA compared to his first half ERA of 4.80. His batting average against has also dropped from .269 to .213 in this second half run.
Salvador Perez, Kansas City Royals - Salvador Perez is closing in on 20 homers this year with another two bombs Saturday, bringing his total up to 19 on the year. The jump in homers is thanks to him maintaining his HR/FB% from last season, but he's started hitting fly balls 11% more often than he did last season. Perez is still hitting his stride at the plate and while there's more things we would like to see improve, we can't complain about improving power numbers at a terrible position for fantasy baseball.
Carlos Rodon, Chicago White Sox - Carlos Rodon has pitched extremely well against the Mariners in his career and takes the mound against them on Sunday. The M's have hit just .200 against the lefty in his career, and for $8,200 on Fanduel he makes for a very nice option at SP with him on a streak of four straight quality starts.
