MLB trades can easily change the fantasy value of the players being traded. But even players who are not traded can see a change in value based on those trades. Here are a few players who stayed put at the deadline, but may have been affected by some of the action that happened over the past few days.
Cody Allen, RP, CLE
Even with Andrew Miller in the fold, there still seems to be a chance that Cody Allen will be receiving at least some save opportunities. Allen has been excellent once again for the Tribe this season with a 2.58 ERA and 11.32 K/9, but without the saves, he would just be another guy. As long as he is still in the mix for saves though, he is worth holding onto in most formats.
Sam Dyson, P, TEX
Dyson is expected to remain the Ranger's closer, even after the team's addition of Jeremy Jeffress from the Brewers. Dyson has a pitched well with a 2.42 ERA and 22 saves this season, yet he remains among the lower tiers of closers due to his mediocre 6.52 K/9. The Jeffress trade has to lower Dyson's value a little bit as the Rangers now have another viable closing option if Dyson were to struggle, but for now he should remain plugged into your lineups.
Brad Miller, SS, OF, TB
With the Rays acquiring Matt Duffy and expecting him to be their shortstop upon his return from the DL, it is unclear what Miller's role will be for the Rays over the remainder of the season. Considering the way he's been hitting recently though, you would have to imagine they will keep him in the lineup nearly every day, at some position or another. Over the course of June and July, Miller has homered 12 times and produced an excellent .508 SLG. If anything, Miller stands to gain from the Duffy trade as he could add more position eligibility, but that probably won't make a huge difference since SS will still be his most premium position.
Jurickson Profar, 2B, 1B, 3B, Tex
Profar had a very lackluster July, hitting only .240 with 4 XBH's and 6 RBI throughout the month. He had been playing pretty regularly recently, but that is likely to change with the Rangers' addition of Carlos Beltran and impending return of Shin Soo Choo. Profar's solid contact rate should allow for his average to rebound, but with limited playing time, it will be hard to amass the counting stats needed to stay fantasy relevant.
Aaron Sanchez, SP, TOR
There have been rumors for a while that Sanchez would be demoted to the bullpen at some point, and that's looking more like a reality now that the Blue Jays have added Francisco Liriano. Sanchez is still expected to get another couple starts, but seems destined to leave the rotation quite soon. Even with the transition looming, Sanchez has been good enough that he's worth holding onto for his last couple starts, even though you know he won't be helping you in the fantasy playoffs. Over his last 8 starts, he has compiled a 1.67 ERA and 0.98 WHIP, while allowing 2 or fewer ER's in each start. Once he does get demoted however, he won't likely have much fantasy value, as he won't be the closer and doesn't have a dominant enough K% to hold value in middle relief.
