David Dahl (OF - COL) - David Dahl recorded his first career hit and run scored last night. Dahl is a highly touted prospect in Colorado that should be owned in all formats. Prior to being called up, he was on fire in AAA. With half of his games coming in Colorado, he immediately becomes an intriguing option in most formats. We've seen how Trevor Story can perform as a rookie, so owners should hope to catch lightning in a bottle with Dahl as well.
Ryan Braun (OF - MIL) - Ryan Braun has been playing extremely well of late, and continued the pace last night by recording a hit, a few walks, and his 12th stolen base of the season. Braun has surpassed my expectations so far, partly because he's hitting for better average last year, but also because he's remained relatively healthy. I own Braun in a league and, despite the good play, I'm trying to sell here. The risk for me is just too high of either an injury or a trade out of Milwaukee. Braun could benefit from a better offense around him, but chances are any deal would send him to a worse hitting park. But even if you can't get solid value for him, he'll certainly remain a productive asset on your team as he's made some improvements to his game.
Braden Shipley (SP - ARI) - Braden Shipley's first start could have gone better, as he allowed 6 ER in 5.1 innings against the Brewers last night. He also walked four batters, suggesting that he had quite a bit of nerves last night. Shipley didn't exactly light up the box score in AAA this season as he had a 3.70 ERA in 119 AAA innings. He also doesn't miss many bats (4 strikeouts last night), so he has more or less no value in redraft leagues. Even though he's a shiny new name, it will take him some time to get acclimated to major league hitting.
Alex Dickerson (OF - SD) - Alex Dickerson hit his 4th HR of the season in the 9th inning last night, preventing the shutout of the Padres. He was 3-for-4 on the night, and I'm now intrigued with Dickerson's performance so far. He only has 80 AB on the season, so the 4 HR in that time represents near 30 HR potential over a full season. He posted a crazy 170 wRC+ in AAA this season, so I like his upside. I think he's worth a flier if you have a spot in some leagues with some desperation for offense.
Jarred Cosart (SP - MIA) - Jarred Cosart came into yesterday with a 7.98 ERA, so naturally he shut the Phillies out over 5 innings, allowing just 3 hits and a walk. This is a reflection of how poor the Phillies offense is rather than Cosart's actual ability. His shiny 1.95 ERA from limited time last was very fortunate, so don't buy into last year's results. Cosart shouldn't be owned in any format, but let this serve as a reminder that streaming options against the Phillies come in all shapes and sizes.
