Gregory Polanco, Pittsburgh Pirates - July has been a very painful month for Polanco (.204/.259/.333) after his extremely strong first half, but is finishing the month strong collecting hits in five of his last six game including a 4-for-4 game on Tuesday. He homered for the first time since July 4th, and his stolen base Tuesday was the first since June 19th. It was only his third stolen base attempt since June 19th, but it is nice to see that he has stolen base attempts in back-to-back games. His contact in July has been flat out just bad as well as his oppo% has jumped up to 26%but his had contact has also dropped to an abysmal 23.8% considering he was 34.2%, 36.8%, and 39.7% over the first three months of the season. He's still an excellent outfield option though, able to provide at least solid numbers in every category.
Jedd Gyorko, St. Louis Cardinals - As someone who lives in Georiga, I know hot. And Jedd Gyorko is hot. He homered in both games of the Cardinals doubleheader bringing his total up to 14 bombs on the year. BEFORE Tuesday's action, since July 18th Gyorko was triple slashing .370/.433/.926 with a .556 ISO and five homers to go along with eight RBI. For those counting at home, including Tuesday, he has seven homers in his last eight games. However this does mean that he only has seven homers in his other 61 games. Almost all of his damage is coming against righties which is a little odd as his career average split is a bit better than off righties, but he has always had more power in terms of HR/AB against same sided pitchers.
Alex Dickerson, San Diego Padres - Dickerson homered again Tuesday, his fifth of the season and his third straight game with a long ball. In each of the previous two games he notched three hits, but he settled for just two hits on Tuesday. His rate stats are almost identical to his AAA stats that he was posting before his got called up, but what's keeping those rate stats from helping him equal his traditional stats was his crazy .382 BABIP that he had in AAA. Dickerson has averaged around a .200 ISO in the minors so he does have solid power and cleared double digits in homers four times in his minor league career including 10 homers in 62 games this season in AAA.
Andrew Cashner, San Diego Padres - Cashner threw well for the third straight outing and is making it more and more likely that he ends up getting dealt before his final start before the trade deadline Sunday. This game he tossed a quality start with six innings of three run ball with six strikeouts against just three walks. Now this start wasn't quite as good as 11.2 innings combined with two earned runs and 17 punchouts, but it was still a good start in terms of his season to this point. NL owners should be weary as there are rumors of AL teams that would be interested in bringing in Cashner. In mixed leagues though he's now very interesting as he's faced the Giants, Cardinals, and Blue Jays which are all very potent offenses.
DFS Mike Foltynewicz, Atlanta Braves - $6,800 Folty can make for a fantastic DFS option on Wednesday against the Twins. Over his past three starts he's thrown 19.2 innings and allowed six runs while striking out 20. Two of those starts came against Colorado where he allowed three runs in each start after shutting out the White Sox over seven innings three starts ago. The Twins rank 20th in terms of hitting righties this season and Lucas Harrell just shut them out Tuesday, at $6,800 he could be a huge bargain.
