Junior Guerra-Brewers-SP
Junior Guerra went 8.2 IP and gave up 1 ER on 4 H, 1 BB, and 5 K's against the Pirates. Guerra now has a 2.70 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 21% K. Guerra has been fantastic and there isn't much in his profile to suggest that major regression is going to set in. He has above average velocity on his fastball, a nasty splitter, curve, and a slider. He is fairly new to pitching and will only get better as he learns to sequence his pitches. His 11.1% SwStr points to more strikeout potential in the future, which is all you can ask from a guy this point in the year. Guerra is the real deal.
Steven Matz-Mets-SP
Steven Matz went 6 IP and gave up 2 ER on 10 H, 1 BB, and 5 K's against the Rockies. Matz came into the game with a 3.36 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 22.7% K. He has shown the ability to post good strikeout numbers without an elite SwStr (9.5%). Matz does an excellent job of getting first pitch strikes, which allows him to be in control and get hitters to swing at his pitches. He is inducing a lot of weak contact (52% GB, 19% Soft). Matz will continue to benefit from pitching in the N.L. and in a pitcher friendly division in the NL East. Next time out he gets the Yankees, who struggle with LHP.
Vincent Velasquez-Phillies-SP
Vincent Velasquez went 6 IP and gave up 6 ER on 7 H, 2 BB, and 5 K's against the Braves. He has a 3.32 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 27% K. Velasquez has elite strikeout stuff with this power FB and CV. He is also getting 11.6% SwStr, which backs up the elite strikeout numbers. The only downside to Velasquez is his combination of fly balls and slightly elevated walk rate. At times his fastball can be flat and easy to hit. There is also the issue of his innings limit, which hasn't been directly stated, but fantasy owners need to keep in mind that he will likely be shut down at some point.
Andrew Cashner-Marlins-SP
Andrew Cashner was traded to the Miami Marlins along with Colin Rea and Tayron Guerrero for Jarred Cosart, Josh Naylor, Carter Capps, and Luis Castillo. Andrew Cashner is the headliner here and he makes the jump from one NL team to another. He will also transition from one pitcher's park to the next. Cashner has a 4.76 ERA and 1.39 WHIP on the year. He has a modest strikeout rate (19%) and an average walk rate (8%). His advanced stats don't think things will improve for the righty either as he has a 4.47 SIERA. In terms of fantasy nothing really changes for Cashner other than being in a better position to win night in and night out.
DFS Value Play
Rajai Davis-Indians-OF
Rajai Davis has the coveted jack (HR) and a bag (SB) potential when he faces a LHP. Davis has a three year average of .353 wOBA and .192 ISO against southpaws. He will likely be hitting leadoff, which ups his overall value and makes him an excellent $/point play. DraftKings: $4,300
