Lucas Giolito, Washington Nationals - Giolito was excellent in his debut tossing four shutout innings against the Mets. Owners obviously would have liked to see I'm at least make it through five innings (stupid rain) to pick up the win, allowing only three baserunners is helping to teams' WHIP and obviously the shutout innings help ERA. Giolito has the talent to be owned in every league but we have no idea what his workload is going to be like at the major league level. Dusty Baker said they will evaluate what they'll do with him after this start, but I think he pitched well enough to at least get one more trip through the rotation.
Matt Harvey, New York Mets - Harvey, like Giolito, also saw his day be cut short by rain and he took the loss after allowing just one run in 3.2 innings. Harvey's control eluded him Tuesday as he walked three batters which is the most he's walked in a game since April 16th. The start was a slight step back after Harvey had posted quality starts in four of his last five with the fifth game being him allowing four runs over 6.0 innings. His strikeouts are all over the place in terms of consistency, but he's settled in at around a 7.9 K/9 which is still two K/9 lower than his career average. Part of that can be chalked up to his O-contact% is up by 8% which will kill strikeouts if you can't get batters to chase.
Julio Urias, Los Angeles Dodgers - Urias picked up his first big league with after allowing two runs on two hits over 6.0 innings on Tuesday. The fact Urias was able to hold the Brewers to two runs as he walked SIX batters in the game is actually really impressive. Urias continued to rack up strikeouts though with another six in this start and he's fanning 11.18 per nine over his first 33.0 innings. We're getting to the point where we may be looking at just one more start for Urias before they send him to the pen, or maybe even AAA just to limit his workload. In redraft leagues I may try to send him to someone else real quick if I don't think he's at the very least going to work out of the pen this year.
Gregory Polanco, Pittsburgh Pirates - Polanco returned to the Pirates lineup Tuesday as the DH and
Matt Wisler, Atlanta Braves - Wisler had a nice bounce back start against the Indians with 6.0 innings and two runs allowed while striking out a career high nine batters. The start helps put a dent in his ERA as the month of June has not been kind to him with a 7.59 ERA over 21.1 innings while posting an abysmal 5.48 K/9 and an almost 4.00 BB/9. Oddly enough with how bad he's been this month, Wisler has actually seen his hard hit rate drop from May to June and he's being plagued by a .324 BABIP after posting a .240 and .219 BABIP in each of the first two months.
