Matt Adams- 1B- STL- Idea- Adams hit all 5 of his homers in 2015 against RH pitching (150 ABs.) His slash line against them was .247/.283/.400. In the early going of 2016 his slash line against RH pitching is an improved .273/.333/.500. Facing Andrew Cashner, who had a .287/.379/.517 slash line against LH hitting and gave up 14 homers in 80 IP against them last year the odds are good that Adams will keep his improvement going, at least for today. Denard Span- OF- SF- Cold- Span went 0-for-2 but drew 2 walks. His average dropped to .226 but his OBP added 11 points to get to .310. Bad luck has plagued Span so far in 2016 with a BABIP of .232. His career mark is .319. Span has a Batting EYE of 1.17 so far. He would be considered a buy low candidate as a change in luck would get him back on track to reach his projected .292 average and 22 steals.
Jean Segura- SS- ARI- Hot- Segura continued his hot start to the season, going 3-for-5 with a triple yesterday. His average stands at .338 and his SLG at .574. Segura has been significantly helped by a .345 BABIP and while he has only walked twice he also has struck out only 7 times. Segura's 3 homers are half the total he hit in all of 2015. He has been getting the ball up in the air, with a 33.3% FB%. A lower K%, higher FB% and still having enough speed to have collected 3 steals already make Segura a fantasy asset even when regression to the mean happens.
Shelby Miller- P- ARI- Cold- Miller walked leadoff hitter Denard Span on 4 pitches in the first and that set the tone for the rest of his outing. Miller ended up getting pulled without getting an out in the 3rd after walking the 4 batters he faced in that frame. Including what came between Miller threw 55 pitches but only 23 of them were strikes. Miller has had problems finding the strike zone all year. He has thrown a total of 290 pitches and only 164 have been strikes. That's only 56.6 %. Before yesterday's start Miller's Zone% was 48.7%, not far off his career number of 48.8%. However, his First Strike% was only 51.7%, a significant drop from his 60.9% career mark. Miller has gotten himself in holes early and often. He has to get this tendency corrected or his fantasy value will be severely battered.
Bryce Harper- OF- WAS- Great Player- Harper got only one hit yesterday, but it was his 8th homer of the season. Despite a BABIP of .225 Harper has a .321 average. That's amazing. His Batting EYE is at a whopping 1.29. Regression to the mean kicking in could give Harper a monster season even above his lofty .307/36/120 projections.
