Nomar Mazara, Texas Rangers - It's expected that we'll see an announcement later tonight/early about Nomar Mazara being called up to make his major league debut Sunday. Shin Soo Choo suffered a calf injury Saturday and Mazara was pulled from his AAA game shortly there-after leading to the speculation. Mazara is one of the best offensive fantasy prospects in the minors, with a few sites throwing Corey Dickerson comparisons on him. Since his power hasn't fully shown up in game yet, his minor league track record looks Gregory Polanco-ish minus the stolen bases. Mazara is one of the best prospects that's close to being ML ready in the minors, so there's a solid chance he's worth a bench spot on your roster. (I'm dropping Socrates Brito for him in my own league, still trying to find a Pollock replacement).
Chris Sale, Chicago White Sox - Chris Sale improved to 2-0 on the year with a nearly identical outing as his win against the A's on opening day. Sale is now averaging 9 K/9 with a sub-2.00 BB/9 over his first two starts. Sale was an bonafide ace last season for the White Sox with his all of his stats despite his middle of the road 13-11 record. He struck out nearly 12 batters per nine and walked under two per nine and was one of three pitchers with double digit K/9 and sub 2 K/9, along with Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer. He's a top five option in all of fantasy with a better team that they have this year.
Tyler White, Houston Astros - Amid all the Trevor Story talk, there's another rookie that's on in insane homerun pace and that's the Astros' DH Tyler White. White has now homered in three straight games and is hitting .667 with a .733 ISO. While White has done nothing but crush the ball all through the minors and in spring training, he's not a very hyped prospect mainly because of his age. His minor league track record is a little Paul Goldschimdt-ish but he doesn't have ANYWHERE near the power production track record that Goldy did through the minors. It'll be interesting to see where he fits in once Evan Gattis returns and AJ Reed being ready and Luis Valbuena still getting at bats at 1B (for now) but ride the hot streak while it lasts.
Colby Rasmus, Houston Astros - Colby Rasmus launched a pair of homers and drove in four runs for the Astros, with the homers being his first long balls of the season. He's off to a very hot start hitting .357 over the first week and has been showing a patient eye at the plate with a 21.1% BB%. That BB% is absolutely a small sample size that will regress as he's only walked in 8.8% of his at bats in his career. His .357 average is also over 100 points higher than his .245 career average despite his 22.2% hard contact rate thus far in the season.
Austin Jackson, Detroit Tigers - Fanduel Salary $2,800 Needing a bargain bin outfielder for Sunday's action? Austin Jackson could make for a decent option as he has had Josh Tomlin's number to this point in his career. The righty is 7-for-16 against Tomlin for his career with five extra base hits and one homer. Jackson has gotten off to a decent start this first week with five hits in 19 Pas but isn't showing any sort of power with a .056 ISO.
