Michael Pineda-Yankees-SP
Michael Pineda went 5 IP and gave up 6 ER on 8 H, 0 BB, and 5 K's against the Astros. Pineda was on the wrong end of some bad luck last year. He had a 4.37 ERA with a 2.95 xFIP. Pineda posted skills to match his xFIP not ERA. He had an excellent strikeout percentage (23%) and walk rate (3%). He is someone who showed above average stuff in terms of swinging strikes, excellent control, and good ground ball rate (49%). Even after the clunker today, look for Pineda to take a big step forward this year if he can stay healthy.
David Ortiz-Red Sox-1B/DH
David Ortiz is 40 yrs. old and retiring at the end of the year, but he isn't dead just yet. He hit his second home run of the season and still has the ability to crush RHP (161 wRC+ and .613 SLG). He has fallen off a bit against left-handed pitching, but is still going to get 450+ AB's against RHP, which will give him ample opportunities to approach 30 HR and ride into the sunset. There is no reason to doubt Ortiz in his swan song.
Robinson Cano-Mariners-2B
Robinson Cano went 2-4 with 2 HR and 5 RBI against the Rangers. Cano has now homered in three straight games and looks locked in at the plate. People were doubting Cano after his slow start last year, but he proved that he still has the skills to be an elite hitter when he hit .331 with 15 HR in the second half. The time period to buy low on Cano has passed, but expect excellent fantasy numbers from him the rest of the year at position that is not very deep. Cano's power is not going to be the same as in Yankee Stadium, but he can post an above average hit tool and his counting stats will be there hitting in the middle of the order.
George Springer-Astros-OF
George Springer was 1-4 with a grand slam against the Yankees. Springer is off to a good start to the season. He has tremendous upside with his power/speed combination. He also made significant strides last season in making more contact. 25% K is still higher than you would like, but for a slugger like Springer, it is a very good sign. He also was able to walk 11% of the time, which is going to allow him to steal 20+ bases. Look for a huge season from the 26 yr. old outfielder.
DFS Value Play
Luis Valbuena-Astros-3B
Luis Valbuena has the platoon advantage in a park that really boosts left-handed power in Yankee Stadium. Valbuena has a .348 wOBA and .808 OPS against RHP last year. This included 20 HR. He is facing RHP Nathan Eovaldi who gave up a .345 wOBA to LHB. DraftKings: $3,600
