Jimmy Nelson (SP-MIL): While he earned the no-decision and allowed 4 earned runs, Jimmy Nelson continued to demonstrate development. He has improved his chase, swinging strike, and contact rates, and while his control has lagged behind, Nelson has shown flashes of the elite K:BB ratio he posted in the high minors. Thanks to a new curveball, hitters are posting a .234 AVG against hit with 0 homers. I see Nelson as a tremendous value play in drafts next season--let's just hope he doesn't go too crazy down the stretch and let the cat out of the bag.
David Peralta (OF-ARI): Peralta went 5 for 5 with 1 run and 1 RBI as the DBacks took down the Reds. Peralta pushed his 2015 wOBA to an impressive .371 mark as he continues to improve his plate discipline both in terms of walk rate and chase rate. His .315 wOBA against lefties has earned him some more playing time as well (although he carries a .373 wOBA vs. righties). Look for him to be a difference-maker down the stretch for your fantasy team. Oh, and with a tasty matchup against Aaron Harang on Monday, look for him to rack up the DFS points later today and deliver value at his $4100 price tag.
Christian Yelich (OF-MIA): Yelich continued his scorching 2nd half of 2015, smacking 3 hits and stealing 2 bases to lead the Marlins over the Braves. Derailed by injuries and rust during the season's early months, the now-healthy Yelich is starting to look like the man we drafted in the spring. The only concern is the 66% groundball rate, which is actually a higher rate than the mark he posted in 2014. He has an incredible amount of fantasy potential, but let's see how his batted profile develops before investing in the early rounds.
Tommy Kahnle (RP-COL): Kahnle picked up his 2nd save of the season as the Rockies dealt a crushing blow to the Nats. With a swinging-strike rate of 14.8% fueled by a nasty fastball/changeup combo that works well with a 56% GB rate, the ingredients are there for Kahnle to take the job and run with it into the future. The 14% BB rate is the only major red flag that I see, so monitor his control in the final months. For those needing saves: spend up for him.
Rubby De La Rosa (SP-ARI): At $7500 on DraftKings, Rubby may make a gem of DFS play today. Philadelphia ranks 29th in the league against righties; and while Rubby has struggled against lefties, the strikeout and win potential along with the reasonable price tag make him a solid option as a SP#2 in tournaments. That 19% HR/FB rate just has to regress, right?
