In honor of the Mets doing so well this year, and with a shout out to my Uncle Vernon, I have written about some of the players that have contributed to the Mets' playoff push, and what to expect from them going forward:
Travis D'Arnaud, C, NYM
D'Arnaud is starting to get going again, as he has now posted an .871 OPS over his last 10 games. His injuries have left him on a lot of waiver-wires, but he has the ability to be a top-10 catcher the rest of the way. If D'Arnaud is available and you're not getting much production from your catcher spot, he should definitely be considered a viable option.
Jacob deGrom, SP, NYM
deGrom has recently been put in the discussion for best pitcher in the NL, and for good reason. For the 2nd season in a row, he is posting an ERA below 3:00, a K/9 above 9, and a GB% above 40%. This year he has added a BB/9 below 2 to his credentials. You would have to think deGrom will be going as a top-10 pitcher in many fantasy leagues next year.
Wilmer Flores, SS, NYM
Flores is the Met who almost became an ex-Met but then ended up staying as a Met for now, and he has been quietly been putting up a decent season for a SS. His 11 HR's and 44 RBI aren't earth shattering, but there aren't many SS's with better power numbers, and his 13.5% K% suggests that he could hit for a good AVG. His BABIP has always remained in the .260's range which is a bit worrisome, but since July 2 he's batting .298, so it could be some regression is finally starting to kick in. A slight uptick in BA while maintaining his power could make Flores a viable mixed-league SS in the future.
Noah Syndergaard, SP, NYM
Nothing about Syndergaard's season thus far seems to be a fluke as his ERA/FIP/xFIP are all between 3.07 and 3.10 and he has an outstanding 9.45 K/9. He is still not universally owned but he should be, as the Mets could be on the verge of their 2nd straight Rookie of the Year.
And for a DFS pick...
Derek Dietrich, 3B, MIA
Dietrich has been playing well recently, putting up a .289/.413/.526 slash line over his last 11 games including his HR against Milwaukee on Monday. Most of his success this year has come against RHP's, against whom he has an .881 OPS this season. He also has been a lot better on the road, with a .972 road OPS compared to a .748 OPS in Miami. This makes for an excellent matchup on Tuesday when Dietrich will face RHP Tyler Cravy in Milwaukee, as Cravy has allowed a .993 OPS to LH hitters and has an unfortunate 7:8 K:BB ratio against them. Dietrich makes for a great play at a great price. Value Play FanDuel Salary: $2,500.
