Jeremy Hellickson (SP-ARI) - Okay it was just the Phillies, but Hellickson was nonetheless brilliant Tuesday, tossing eight innings of one-run ball (an unearned run) on seven hits with a 6:0 K:BB. The outing lowered Hellickson's ERA to 4.73 though his K:BB remains solid at 103:36 in 123.2 innings. Hellickson's Achilles' heel has been his 18 home runs allowed. Considering he's improved his GB/FB rate to 1.5 this year versus 1.0 marks the previous two, we could see further improvement in Hellickson's ERA down the stretch as the HR's become less frequent. He's not a guy I would use in FanDuel formats right now, but if he can build on Tuesday's outing, he may be safe to use in NL-only roto leagues.
Yasiel Puig (OF-LAD) - Puig had a two-run homer and a flyball bases-clearing triple en route to driving in all five LA runs in a 5-0 win over the Nationals Tuesday. Puig is still batting a disappointing .246/.317/.432, but Puig certainly has the talent to rip off a prolonged hot streak. He's been rather streaky throughout his young career, so strike while the iron is hot in FanDuel formats. He's listed at a low $2,700 salary Wednesday against RHP Jordan Zimmermann, and after this one, expect him to be in the lineup, making him a potential bargain at that salary.
Corey Spangenberg (2B-SD) - A return of Spanbenberg from a knee injury is nothing to get all worked up over, but if you're in deep leagues and need MI help and stolen bases, he could be your guy. Spanbenberg is batting just .254/.304/.356 in 199 PA's, but he's swiped seven bases after stealing a total of 35 between four levels a year ago. The left swinger does hit southpaws well, so that could help his chances at everyday work, though that could come at third, second, or even shortstop, where he surprisingly made appearance in a recent minor league game. Lots of openings in the Padres infield these days. He's worth a look once we know he's healthy and will be playing every day. There isn't a ton of upside in his $2,500 FanDuel current salary, but he should get some steals and score a few runs.
Jason Heyward (OF-STL) - Heyward has about two months to make a push for a $200 million free agent contract, and he took a small step forward with a 2-for-4 two RBI effort Tuesday against the Pirates. Heyward has three multi-hit games in his last four games and is now batting .289/.344/.430 with nine home runs and 18 stolen bases. He's yet to really live up to expectations offensively, but Heyward just turned 26, so his prime years are just ahead of him. I'm not a huge fan of his $3,500 FanDuel salary, but if he has a few more solid games and the salary remains constant, I could see slotting him in there against a below-average RHP.
David Buchanan (SP-PHI) - Buchanan had a bit of a rough Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, retiring just five batters while allowing 11 runs on 11 hits, including two home runs - one a David Peralta grand slam. Considering Buchanan allowed seven runs in four innings in his last start, things haven't exactly been going well. In 10 starts, Buchanan has a 9.00 ERA with a mediocre 26:21 K:BB in 49 innings. At this point the Phillies are playing for 2016 so maybe they continue to roll Buchanan out there, but just make you don't do the same in your league.
