Khris Davis-Brewers-OF
Khris Davis was 0-3 with a walk in the loss to the Brewers. Davis has been earning his nickname this month (crush). He has a .257 AVG, but you are not expecting that from him, but are expecting power (.629 SLG and .970 OPS) in August. His hard hit % has risen to 48% and he looks to be righting the ship down the stretch. Davis is owned in 19% of ESPN leagues, so if he is available and you need power, it would be a smart move to pick him up.
Noah Syndergaard-Mets-SP
Noah Syndergaard went 7 IP and gave up 3 ER on 4 H, 2 BB, and 5 K in the win against the Rockies. Syndergaard prior to today's start only lasted 4 IP and gave up 5 ER to the Rays, so it was nice to see him bounce back. Syndergaard has made two significant changes since joining the rotation. He has started to throw a two-seamer into righties and he added the Warthen slider. Couple those two devastating pitches with his pin-point command and you have a future ace. The Mets are just absolutely loaded with young starting pitching. For fantasy purposes there is some concern he might wear down as the season goes, but his talent is so great that you have no choice to just ride him out.
Jon Lester-Cubs-SP
Jon Lester went 6 IP and gave up 2 ER on 7 H, 2 BB, and 10 K in the win against the Brewers. Jon Lester has been as advertised for the Cubs outside of his throwing to first base problems. Lester allowed 5 SB today and has allowed 35 SB total, which is a lot. Outside of that, Lester has a 3.21 ERA with a 2.95 FIP and 149 K's in 145.2 IP. Lester has not been as good as last year, but that was a career year and he is in line with his career numbers, so there is nothing to say that he won't keep it up. He'll continue to be very good fantasy pitcher, just not an ace.
Gregory Polanco-Pirates-OF
Gregory Polanco was 1-4 with a run scored and RBI in the win against the Mets. Polanco hit .274 in July and has hit .389 so far in August. Polanco is quietly putting back together his season, after being completely dismal in May and June. Polanco already has 20 SB and should approach 10 HR by the seasons end. If he finishes somewhere around a .265 with 10 HR and 25 SB, fantasy owners have to be happy with what they got from Polanco. The weird thing, he is pulling the ball more and hitting more fly balls, which normally doesn't coincide with a spike in BA, but the BABIP gods have to be on Polanco's side. Polanco really started to make strides in July, which is when he had his highest oppo %. Keep an eye on Polanco's pull/oppo numbers, because he is a much better hitter when going the other way.
DFS Plays of the Day
Ender Inciarte-Diamondbacks-OF
Ender Inciarte usually leads off for the Diamondbacks against RHP, which in itself has great value in DFS. Inciarte has a 32% hard contact rate and 21% LD against RHP. He also has the ability to swipe a bag, as he has 11 in limited playing time. He also gets to face Julio Teheran, who has given up a .368 wOBA to LHB's this year. Fanduel Value: $2,600
