DFS Picks:
Top Pick
Cole Hamels (SP-TEX) - When the opposition's offense averages 3.51 runs/game at home, you have a chance to make a killing. Cole Hamels is set to take on a Mariners lineup that only has three offensive threats. Considering that two of the three dangerous hitters are lefties (Seager and Cano), the Mariners offense is less threatening. Hamels has owned lefties all season, which is evident based on his .214 BAA and one home run allowed. Aside from their lack of hitting, Seattle averages 7.99 K/9. With Hamels pitching, this 7.99 K/9 should be elevated. This season Hamels has a 9.44 K/9. His 92.3 MPH fastball still misses bats and his deadly change is untouchable. DraftKings Pick: $10,300
Value Play
Daniel Norris (SP-DET) - There's a reason Detroit wanted Daniel Norris for David Price. It wasn't just because of his prospect status; it was because he is talented. On Friday, Norris will face a Red Sox team who averages 3.55 runs/game on the road. In his last outing, Norris held a much more dangerous Orioles offense to one run over 7.1 innings. Over his last three starts, Norris has given up two runs in 17.1 innings. His 1.28 FB/GB ratio combined with Comerica Park's .796 HR park factor should allow Norris to keep putting up zeros. DraftKings Value Pick: $6,400
Stack of the Day Toronto vs. Nathan Eovaldi
There are very few pitchers these days that can stop Toronto's offense. I assure you Nathan Eovaldi is not one of them. This season the Blue Jays are averaging 5.33 runs/game. With Troy Tulowitzki and Ben Revere in the lineup, Toronto has an elite offense. On Friday the Blue Jays will play at Yankee Stadium, whose above average park factors in runs (1.092), home runs (1.257), and hits (1.005) support a healthy offense. Also aiding run production is opposing pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who has failed to throw at least six innings in 13 of his 21 starts. Eovaldi's .351 BABIP and .300 BAA make him a prime target for baseball's top offense. For the best possible stack see the options below.
1. Tulo, Donaldson, Bautista, Pillar, Revere
2. Tulo, Donaldson, Bautista, Martin, Collabello
3. Tulo Donaldson, Bautista, Encarnacion, Smoak
4. Martin, Collabello, Smoak, Pillar, Revere
Add Drops:
R.A. Dickey (SP-TOR) - Right now R.A. Dickey is available on plenty of waiver wires, and is well worth the pickup. Over his last 10 outings Dickey has nine quality starts. In six of those appearances he gave up two runs or fewer. Dickey is currently coming off a two month stretch where his ERA was 2.96 and his Innings/Game was 6.64. In his most recent outing Dickey threw a seven inning two hit shutout against the Royals, which improved his scoreless streak to 19.2 innings. My recommendation is to pick up Dickey from waivers, but don't start him against the Yankees. New York has the second best offense in baseball and hits extremely well at home. After his start against the Yankees, Dickey will have plenty of winnable matchups. His run support is going to skyrocket, so give Dickey a chance.
Luis Severino (SP-NYY) - Highly regarded prospect Luis Severino raised eyebrows on Wednesday when he held the Red Sox to one earned run over five innings. Severino's impressive debut included seven strikeouts and no walks. Prior to his call up, Severino was 7-0 at Triple-A Scranton with a 1.91 ERA and a .184 BAA. Going into Wednesday's game, Severino was ranked the third best right-handed pitcher in minor league baseball. On a team like the Yankees, he's bound to flourish. The Yankees have the second highest scoring offense in baseball, and a lockdown bullpen to secure wins for their starting pitchers.
