Eduardo Rodriguez-Red Sox-SP
Eduardo Rodriguez went 6 IP and gave up 2 ER on 7 H, 0 BB, and 1 K in the loss to the Royals. Rodriguez looked good and has continued his up and down rookie season. Through 16 major league starts he has given up less 3 ER or less in 12 starts. The other four starts, he has given up 6 ER or more. Part of this is due to his lack of control, which is evident through his 2.81 BB/9 and if you look at his heatmap, there is a big red blob right in the middle of the zone. If he can command the zone better, he could turn into a fantasy stud. He gets the Mets next time out, which is a good matchup for him.
Cole Hamels-Rangers-SP
Cole Hamels went 6 IP and gave up 2 ER on 8 H, 2 BB, and 2 K in the win against the Tigers. Hamels did only give up 2 ER, but the 8 hits and 2 BB is concerning. He posted a 5.64 ERA in July and he has not been much better in August (5.23 ERA). People wrote the bad July off due to trade rumors and being unmotivated for a bad team, but he hasn't improved any moving to Texas. The velocity is up and his SwStr rate is fine, so Hamels seems to be going through a period of bad luck. He has been hurt by the long ball and that should normalize down the stretch. He remains just outside of being a fantasy ace.
Miguel Sano-Twins-3B
Miguel Sano went 2-5 with his 11th HR and 2 RBI. Sano flashed both his potential and downside in this game. He has great power, but he also racks up the strikeouts. He has 11 HR's in 44 games and his .277 ISO is crazy good. The bad news is that his 31% HR/FB ratio will come down, but the power is legit regardless. The other bad news is that he has a 34% K, which doesn't bode well for his .284 AVG going forward, which is propped up by a .410 BABIP. He still has a ton of potential going forward, I just want you to be aware of the warts.
Taijuan Walker-Mariners-SP
Taijuan Walker went 5.2 IP and gave up 5 ER on 7 H, 0 BB, and 4 K in the win against the White Sox. Walker has been more down than up this year. He has electric stuff and the control in terms of walks is fine, but his command in the zone is not. His heatmap shows that he misses over the heart of the plate way too much. This is reflected in his 1.34 HR/9. In dynasty formats, I would not give up on Walker and his talent, but in re-draft, he is nothing more than a league average pitcher.
DFS Value Play
Kris Medlen-Royals-SP
Kris Medlen is making his return to the rotation after being in the bullpen following his second Tommy John surgery. This season in the bullpen he has a 2.51 ERA (3.12 FIP) and 8.79 K/9. The Orioles are pretty good against RHP, which makes Medlen a GPP play only. The Orioles strikeout 22% of the time verse RHP and Medlen is at home. DraftKings Value: $5,200
