Trevor Bauer-Indians-SP
Trevor Bauer went 1.2 IP and gave up 5 ER on 6 H, 1 BB, and 1 K in the loss to the Red Sox. There are a couple of thing that we know about Trevor Bauer. He strikes batters out (8.77 K/9), walks too many guys (3.65 BB/9), and gives up homeruns (1.47 HR/9). The combination of too many walks and homeruns has spiked his ERA to 4.62. He is still useful to fantasy owners for his ability get the strikeouts, but you're going to take a hit on ERA. The expectation that he improves his command, is a fools move, because he now has over 280 IP and nothing has changed.
Chi-Chi Gonzalez -Rangers-SP
Chi-Chi Gonzalez went 6 IP and gave up 3 ER on 5 H, 1 BB, and 7 K in the loss to the Mariners. Avoid Chi-Chi Gonzalez at all costs. He is walking more than he is striking out (4.41 BB/9 to 3..49 K/9) and he has benefited from an extremely low .228 BABIP. So the 4.25 ERA could go even higher, making him unusable in fantasy leagues.
Hisashi Iwakuma-Mariners-SP
Hisashi Iwakuma went 7 IP and gave up 2 ER on 5 H, 1 BB, and 6 K in the win against the Rangers. Iwakuma pitched well in his first start after throwing a no-hitter. Iwakuma has quietly put together a nice stretch of starts since struggling with injuries and inconsistencies early in the season. Over his last seven starts prior to today, he had a 2.88 ERA with a 43:9 K/BB ratio. He pitches in a great home park and looks to be righting the ship for the stretch run. I wouldn't expect 2013 numbers, but he could easily match what he did a year ago the rest of the way.
Curt Casali-Rays-C
Curt Casali was 2-4 with a homerun (9) in the loss to the Astros. Casali is slashing .233/9/17. The average isn't there, but the power is in his limited playing time. One might be tempted to add him just for the power, but he has never hit more than 8 HR at any level and that was Single-A. The power is due to an unsustainable 30% HR/FB rate. If the power isn't there, he doesn't bring much else to the table. He is better off left on the waiver wire.
DFS Plays of the Day
Dexter Fowler-Cubs-OF
Dexter Fowler will be leading off, which makes him instantly valuable in DFS and he has good platoon splits against LHP. He has a career .364 wOBA and .131 ISO verse southpaws. He gets matched up with Daniel Norris, who has struggled at the major league level. Fanduel Value: $2,900
