High Risk High Payoff:
Domonic Brown (OF-PHI) - Due to the limited slate of NL games on Monday, very few guys qualify as good DFS value picks. Most players are iffy at best, and few have a high upside. As far as high-risk high reward, Dominic Brown leads my list. On Monday night, Brown should have a good chance to reach the bleachers against Michael Pineda. Over the past three seasons, Brown is hitting .258 against righties with 34 home runs and a .756 OPS. His .438 SLG over that stretch isn't through the roof, but should get a boost due to the short porch at Yankee Stadium. At home this season, Pineda has averaged .985 HR/9. Four of the five home runs he has allowed at home have been hit by lefties. The Phillies might not leave the yard, but if they do, Brown will likely be the culprit. FanDuel Value Pick $2200
Value Picks:
Ben Revere (OF-PHI) - Ben Revere is one of the peskiest hitters in the MLB. His 89% contact rate and 10.6% K rate make him a good candidate for a cheap DFS pick. On Monday night, Revere and the Phillies will take on Michael Pineda and the Yankees. Pineda has been fantastic this season, but his .351 BABIP could be a problem against Revere. Since the start of June, Revere is hitting .324 with five extra base hits. He probably won't connect for extra bases against Pineda, but he could easily reach twice. Revere's value stems from his ability to steal bases. So far, Revere is 17 for 21 in stolen bases. Pineda has limited the run game well this year (runners are 2 for 6 in SB opportunities), but with Revere on the base pads, it's a whole different story. FanDuel Value Pick $2900
Scott Van Slyke (OF-LAD) - It's hard not to like Scott Van Slyke against Tsuyoshi Wada. In 2014, Van Slyke broke out as a premier righty specialist. In 108 at bats versus lefties, Van Slyke hit. 315 with eight home runs. This season he is 8 for 26 against lefties. Only one hit has left the yard, but three have gone for extra bases. Including his 2014 season, Van Slyke has 21 extra base hits against lefties in his last 133 at bats. With a .158 XBH/AB ratio, Van Slyke is a definite DFS steal. FanDuel Value Pick $3200
Must Adds:
Derek Dietrich (3B-MIA) - With Martin Prado on the DL, Derek Dietrich will be picking up the slack at third base for the Marlins. Dietrich has only played nine games this season, but has already shown signs of promise. On Sunday, Dietrich went 2 for 5, which increased his average to .333. Based on his career .224 AVG, there's no reason to believe he'll be hitting this well 30 games into the season. However, Dietrich's value is rooted in his ability to hit for power. Through 24 at bats Dietrich has six extra base hits including three home runs. With Dee Gordon and Christian Yelich sandwiching him in the lineup, Dietrich should have the chance to produce big time if he can stay healthy.
Justin Turner (3B-LAD) - Depending on your fantasy league, Justin Turner has far more positional eligibility than listed above. Defensive positioning aside, Turner needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues immediately. As of Friday, he appears to be the new three hitter in the Dodgers lineup. Since moving to the three spot, Turner already has three home runs. Sunday night, he capped of his weekend with a 2 for 3 performance that included a two run home run, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Overall Turner is hitting .333 this season with 32 RBIs. Initially, his role with the Dodgers was to be a utility player. Nine home runs and 53 hits later, it's clear Turner is best fit for full time work.
