Mallex Smith, Atlanta Braves - A name for dynasty leagues to keep an eye on is speedster Mallex Smith. Smith came over to Atlanta for Justin Upton and has done nothing but tear the cover off the ball, and he was recently promoted to AAA earlier this week. After triple slashing .340/.418/.402 in AA with 27 steals, he's shown the Braves Front Office he has a great chance to be the centerfield of the future. This comes one year after he swiped 88 bags for San Diego in the minors, so the speed definitely has a track record. Jose Pereza was playing center for AAA Gwinnett but he has yet to see time at the position since Smith's arrival. He won't be up this year, but a solid finish in AAA could leave him in the Braves' plans for 2016.
Corey Seager, Los Angeles Dodgers - The Dodgers will not allow Corey Seager to play in the Future's Game next month, leading to speculation that they may have some plans in the future for the top hitting prospect left in the minors. They could just be wanting him to have an extra few days of rest, but it's hard to ignore his .288/.343./.466 triple slash with six homers in his 48 AAA games. In his last three games he's homered twice with five RBI and has 10 hits in his last 10 games. If he plays shortstop in the majors fulltime, he's got Troy Tulowitzki like upside at the position (.349, 20 HR, 97 RBI over two levels last year) but it's likely he could find his long term home at third base. His bat will play wherever the Dodgers play him, but his highest value would come from playing up the middle.
Giancarlo Stanton, Miami Marlins - Oh baseball gods why have you forsaken us.... Or are they just getting back at Jeffery Loria for being a slime ball? Either way, Giancarlo has a broken bone that'll need surgery and he's likely going to be out 4-to-6 weeks. This impacts both Giancarlo owners and owners of every other player in the lineup. Dee Gordon will get hurt the most as his run totals will likely take an enormous dip. He may run more though as a result but he's only swiping bags at a 72% success rate this year so there's some cause for concern there in points leagues.
Trae Turner, Washington Nationals - After finally joining the Nats after being a player to be named later in the Wil Myers mega deal, he tore through AA and has already been promoted to AAA. His fantasy relevance really begins next season as the team will likely part ways with Ian Desmond, leaving a whole at shortstop. If not for the logjam of infielders already in the nationals capitol he could have a chance for some innings down the stretch this year. He is an excellent hitter with a career .322 average in the minors and he provides enough in other categories to be an impact shortstop. Over his 132 career minor league games he's hitting .322 with 10 homers and 38 steals, which would easily put him among the bests at the position. He doesn't have the pure hitting skills that Seager does at short, but he's got better speed and has a much much better chance of staying at the position.
DFS - Alex Wood, Atlanta Braves - Alex Wood has been really strange this season as he has pitched bad while getting strikeouts at home and has pitched well while not striking anyone out on the road this year. The Pirates are just middle of the road against lefties this year, so I like Wood's chance on Sunday. The Pirates have just a 91 wRC+ and also rank towards the bottom of the league in hard hit% against southpaws which lines up well more for Wood to have a nice start.
