Joe Kelly, Boston Red Sox - Joe Kelly got hammered by the Orioles for five runs over 3.2 innings Tuesday. Kelly is really frustrating for owners because he'll string a few solid starts together before dropping a bomb like this one on them. 5/14 and 5/20? 13.1 innings with three earned runs and nine strikeouts. 5/25, his next start? 1.2 innings and seven runs on eight hits. He has a close to league average fastball and an above average changeup, but his inability to develop that third pitch (Slider and Curve both rate as fairly well below average) might be the key to whether or not Kelly can develop into a mid-level starter. Jon Farrell didn't seem overly committed to Kelly making his next start, so it's definitely something to watch come his next turn.
Roberto Osuna, Toronto Blue Jays - The Blue Jays have no idea what they want to do with their bullpen and it's Roberto Osuna's turn to walk through the revolving door again. Brett Cecil has been removed from the closers role for Toronto and it looks like Osuna is going to be the best candidate to get the ninth. Osuna has huge strikeout potential but faltered in high leverage situations earlier this year. In 6.2 "high leverage" situations, he's allowed seven hits and five runs but did rack up 10 strikeouts. He's going to get some chances for saves with Toronto rolling how they are, and here's to hoping Osuna can pitch better than he did in his first stint as the closer.
Brett Gardner, New York Yankees - Brett Gardner is on an unbelievable tear at the plate homering a day after going 5-for-5 at the plate. He's hitting a career high .294 this season thanks to him returning to using the whole field like he did in the early years of his career. He had a career low 24.5% Oppo% last season and to no surprise his average also dipped to .256 as well, whereas this year his Oppo% has jumped back up to 33.2%. His FB% rate has also dropped down to 30.2% from 36.7%, showing even more that he's back to his old self. Basically in 2013-14 he got pull happy and fly ball happy trying to wear out the short porch in right, but he has realized the error in his ways and has become very productive again.
Joey Gallo, Texas Rangers - Joey Gallo started in left field for the third time this year and went 1-or-5 with a double and a run scored. His K% continues to climb towards the peak of Everest and now sits at 40.3% and we've seen his hot start plummet to a .212 average. However, his value will actually get a nice boost once he gets the OF eligibility and while you may not be starting him over many outfielders, it's still nice to have that option in daily leagues. It also gives a likely scenario where he does stick around even when Adrian Beltre returns (Beltre still can't grip the bat) and someone else gets sent down/DFA'd/released.
DFS Brandon Moss, Detroit Tigers - vs. Buck Farmer $2,900 Well initially I had Brandon Moss in here because he destroys Justin Verlander, but the Tigers saw Moss's stats against him and are calling up Buck Farmer to start Wednesday instead. So I'm going to leave Moss in here anyways. He's hit nine of his 11 homers against righties but yet is only hitting .210 against them compared to .261 off southpaws. Farmer has made one start this year and it was horrible, allowing seven runs and two homers in five innings against the Angels.
