Max Scherzer, Washington Nationals - Poor Max Scherzer.... One strike away from perfection and he plunks Jose Tabata on the elbow. But I guess finishing off Josh Harrison one batter later to complete the no-hitter is a pretty solid consolation prize. He struck out 10 batters in the game and the effort lowered his ERA and FIP to 1.76 and 1.96 respectively. He's been worth every penny of that crazy deal he got in the offseason and he's finally starting to rack up the wins after his defense hurt him in his first few starts.
Bryce Harper, Wahington Nationals - Bryce Harper showed no ill-effects of his hamstring strain Saturday as he launched his career high 23rd homer of the season. The homerun came off Francisco Liriano which was only his fourth homer off southpaws this year. The improvement off lefties has been huge in his breakout campaign, hitting .334 off them this year while being just a career .251 hitter against lefties. Neither 45% of his contact is hard hit and he has a 1:1 GB to FB ratio, which will help lead to more power off them as the season continues.
Travis d'Arnuad, New York Mets - d'Arnaudwas having a huge game before being injured tagging AJ Pierzynski on a play at the plate. The x-rays came back as negative and he is being listed as day-to-day by the Mets' training staff. Before the injury, d'Arnuad was already 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI, and he's really having a good season at catcher but we have to wonder if he'll ever be healthy for the majority of a season. He's currently hitting .296 with a .374 wOBA but of which are by far career highs in his small number of games this year. When he's healthy he can produce like a top 10 catcher, but unfortunately that doesn't happen often.
Chad Bettis, Colorado Rockies - BEttis picked up win #3 of the year for Colorado with 6.1 innings of one run ball. He struck out five and walked just two continuing his solid K:BB ratio on the season. While it's always hard to trust Rockies pitchers, Bettis has bucked that trend so far with his 3.13 FIP and 0.54 HR/9. He's entering streaming territory for me and if I owned him I may look to move him while he's hot as he's never had a FIP with 4.90 entering this season.
DFS Kyle Scwarber, Chicago Cubs - DraftKings Value: $3,500 Schwaber could make a nice play at catcher Sunday as he's played extremely well since being called up for the week . He's picked up a hit in 3 out of his 4 starts and as driven in four over the span . He hasn't walked yet in his time in the majors and the strikeouts will, but the hopes are he'll run into one and keep hs .278 ISO going.
