Luis Valbuena, Houston Astros - Luis Valbuena has been one of the biggest power surprises in baseball this season as another two homers Tuesday gives him 16 on the season. He drove in four on the game pushing his total to 30 on the season. He's become another boom or bust candidate in the Astros lineup hitting just .188 on the season with a K% north of 20%. If you can sell high on a .188 hitters, I thank Valbuena would be a solid choice to try and move. He's hitting fly balls at a career high 51% which is fine, but he also has a well above career average 16.7% HR/FB%. His career average in around 8.9% so that's a pretty significant drop off when he starts to regress over the course of the season.
Alex Colome, Tampa Bay Rays - The Nats pegged Alex Colome for six runs in two innings Tuesday, dropping his record to 3-3 overall. He allowed ten baserunners, three via walks, and struck out two as his struggles on the season continue. He looked to be turning the corner on the season with two one run outings in his last two starts, but he fell back into a clunker last night. There's really not much to suggest that some improvement is on the way besides a high HR/FB%, but even then it may stay high because he really doesn't miss many bats. In his rookie season he had a swinging strike rate of 10.9%, but he's dropped to 8.3% in each of the past two seasons which likely has to do with a large drop off of his changeup usage.
Vincent Velazquez, Houston Astros - Vinny Velazquez drew a tough start against the Rockies in his second start of the his career, but he still struck out seven while allowing five runs on seven hits. After throwing five shutout innings his debut, he lasted just 4.2 innings and gave up seven hits as opposed to just three in his debut. His strikeout just is a nice surprise though, as is his drop in walks allowed between the two starts. He owns a 3.83 FIP through two starts and while it's still too small a sample size to look at any sorts of contact data, he may be a nice streaming option next time out against the Mariners who strikeout the third most in the league.
Luke Gregerson, Houston Astros - Luke Gregerson has picked up saves now in back-to-back games, running his total to 17 on the season. Gregerson has been shaky overall this season with a 4.00 ERA but yet he's only blown two saves on the season. His strikeout rate has been good at a near 10 per nine, and a 2.00 BB/9 is good as well. I'm starting to wonder exactly how much pitching in Minute Maid is effecting his overall line, as his numbers look really similar to his 2.12 ERA performance in Oakland last year. His pull% against him has jumped another 2%, which could have an adverse effect on his numbers with the Crawford Boxes in left. It's something to watch but as for now he has the closer job still locked down.
DFS Joey Butler, Tamapa Bay Rays vs. Jordan Zimmerman - $3,500 Now I'm still not adding Joey Butler in any sort of season leagues, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't use that ridiculous .450 BABIP in DFS. Butler is just $3,500 on DraftKings Wednesday and he gets to face Jordan Zimmerman who is not the Jordan Zimmerman we are used to seeing. He's been crushing both righties and lefties, but has a .329 average with 10 RBI against righties this year so he could be a real nice value at the position.
