DFS Picks:
Jarred Cosart (SP-MIA) - Jarred Cosart's matchup against the Phillies on Sunday should be a piece of cake. Cosart has the opportunity to pitch at home, where his ERA and WHIP are 0.64 and 0.79 respectively. In general, the Phillies are an easy team to pick on. Their team batting average of .221 is second worst in the MLB. Cosart, whose BABIP is a miniscule .191, has only allowed 16 hits in 25.1 innings. Of those 16 hits, just five were given up in Miami. This translates to a .111 BAA. For DFS players, Cosart should be on your radar. His favorable matchup and cheap price tag make him an enticing pick. FanDuel Value Pick $7,400
Juan Lagares (CF-NYM) - Juan Lagares is a hitting machine. This season, Lagares is hitting .348 at home. His .392 BABIP makes him a reliable pick against contact pitchers, like his Sunday matchup Doug Fister. Fister has been anything but impressive this season. His 4.01 K/9, 3.28 BB/9, and 1.46 WHIP are career worsts. Part of the problem could be Fister's average fastball velocity, which is down 1.7 MPH from last season. This dip has likely contributed to Fister's .21-point increase in BABIP, which should play into the Lagares matchup. In his career against Fister, Lagares is 5 for 11 with a walk. Couple that with Lagares' .375 AVG over the last 10 games, and it becomes obvious why Lagares is such a reliable pick. FanDuel Value Pick $2,500
Joc Pederson (CF-LAD) - Whenever the Dodgers play at home, their entire team should be owned in DFS leagues. Joc Pederson, who has been leading off the last few days, is no exception. Pederson comes into Sunday with a .406 BABIP, 22.2 % BB rate and .333 ISO. He strikes out pretty often due to his big swing, but he makes up for it with a 0.78 BB/K rate and .463 OBP. This season in Dodger Stadium, LA averages 5.93 runs per game. Their home batting average of .284 is fourth best in the MLB. Pederson himself has a .306 AVG in Dodger Stadium, which includes five home runs in just 41 at bats. In DFS leagues Pederson's price is starting to spike, so get him now, because soon you might not be able to afford him. FanDuel Value Pick $3,800
Waiver Wire Adds:
Dan Haren (SP-MIA) -Dan Haren has been a quiet star for the Marlins this season. Given that the Phillies aren't a great team, Haren still pitched very well. He threw six scoreless innings of zero walk four strikeout baseball. This performance lowered his ERA to 2.70 and his WHIP to 0.87. Age has certainly taken its toll on Haren whose average fastball velocity is only 86 MPH. Despite this clear lack of velocity, opposing batters are only hitting .171 against Haren. Much of this is due to his .136 BABIP. I doubt Haren will keep this excellence much longer, but until he cools off, he's worth the waiver wire pick up.
Michael Taylor (CF-WAS) - Denard Span just missed his second consecutive game with abdomen soreness. During spring training, Span had surgery to repair an injured abdominal muscle on his right side. His soreness might not be much of an issue, but just incase, Michael Taylor is a smart pick up. Taylor has a .419 BABIP this season. His 36.8% K rate is extremely high, but for a guy with 20-20 potential, you could afford the risk. Taylor has a .271 AVG with two home runs, nine RBIs, and two stolen bases. If given the at bats, he could have a breakout season.
