Noah Syndergaard-Mets-SP
Noah Syndergaard pitched well in his second major league start on Sunday against the Brewers. Syndergaard showed good control and an overpowering fastball. Syndergaard struggled in 2014 at Triple-A and for that reason was not receiving as much hype as he should have. His numbers were inflated by the PCL, which is a notorious hitter friendly league. The underlying factor of his 2014 season, was that he focused on his change-up, because his curveball was not working in the thin air in the PCL. Syndergaard has shown flashes of a plus change-up through his first two starts. If he can continue to use and show the change-up, he will continue to rack up the strikeouts. He will struggle with control from time to time, but seems to have the makeup and stuff to succeed at the major league level. The only concerning thing is that Dillon Gee is set to return soon and it will be interesting to see if the Mets keep Syndergaard in the rotation.
Shelby Miller-Braves-SP
Shelby Miller continued his brilliant start to 2015 by throwing a complete game shutout and didn't give up a hit through eight innings. Miller now has a miniscule 1.33 ERA over 54 IP with a .83 WHIP. Miller has made GM John Hart look smart for making the swap for the young right-hander. You might be asking what is different about Shelby Miller in 2015 since he took a step back in 2014? The answer is a change in his pitch mix. He used to be primarily a fastball/curve pitcher. This year Miller has thrown his FB and CV less, while upping the usage of his CT to 19.8% from 6.2% a year ago. This has led Miller to a career high 49% GB rate. The rest of Miller's numbers are in line with what he has done throughout his career. He is due for regression because of his 88% LOB and .203 BABIP. The strikeouts haven't come back, now might be the time to sell high on Miller and get a very nice return.
Chris Heston-Giants-SP
Chris Heston has been a pleasant surprise for the Giants so far in 2015. The 27 yr. old had a 2.96 ERA coming into Sundays start. Heston only lasted 2 IP and gave up 5 ER on 7 H and 2 BB. Heston's ERA now sits at 3.72. Heston doesn't have great stuff, but he does have a 54% GB and is a much better real life pitcher than fantasy. Heston will remain relevant in NL only leagues, but will have a hard time staying on mixed league rosters due to his average stuff and low strikeout totals.
Bryce Harper-Nationals-OF
Bryce Harper was 3-4 with his 14th HR, 3 R, and 4 RBI. Harper is slashing .338/14/37 over his first 39 games. Harper's production is finally matching his potential. Harper has made great strides this season. He has an insane 22% BB rate. He has also cut down his SwStr% by over 4%. He also has a career high 38% hard hit rate. Anyway you look at it, Harper is on fire and we are getting a glimpse at his potential being played out in reality. Harper is on his way to a historic season for a 22yr. old.
DFS Value Play of the Day
Khris Davis-Brewers-OF
Khris Davis mashes left-handed pitching. He owns a career .346 wOBA and .264 ISO against southpaws. He gets the juicy matchup against the soft tossing Kyle Lobstein of the Tigers. Lobstein has struggled at home this year and against right-handed hitters. Everything is looking in the right direction for Davis on Monday. DraftKings Value: $4,100
