Gordon Beckham, Chicago White Sox: Fanduel Price: $2,500 Gordon Beckham has been getting the majority of the at bats at third base so $2,500 for a starter at the position isn't a bad move. He has a hit in six of his last seven with one homer and three RBI in that span. Beckham has interesting reverse splits for his career being a .275 off of righties and Houston is throwing Roberto Hernandez on Sunday. He's a cheap option at the position if you want to go for an elite bat at another.
Kyle Gibson, Minnesota Twins - Kyle Gibson pitched around eight hits and four walks on Saturday to allow just one run in 5.2 innings. Gibson has similar strikeout and walk numbers as fellow staff mate Mike Pelfrey which puts a damper on the excitement of his season overall. While his ERA is 2.61, his FIP is in the mid-4.00 range thanks to a contact rate of 82% and his BABIP of .260. It makes it hard to trust him in his starts, and he's relatively worthless in DFS due to his complete lack of strikeouts.
Shane Greene, Detroit Tigers - The Angels, for lack of a better term, destroyed Shane Greene Saturday launching five homers in his 1.2 innings on the mound. He allowed six hits and seven runs overall and took the loss, moving his record to 4-4. A popular breakout pick for 2015 has struggled almost all season with his ERA sitting at 5.19 and his FIP at 4.53. His batted ball data leads you to believe that he should be better than he has been, seeing his soft contact jump from 18% to 23% this year. Then you keep scrolling on his Fangraphs page and you'll see that is just because as a whole opponents are making more contact overall, showing that it's not him forcing it but rather just the bulk number made it jump. His K's/9 has dropped almost in half, and as a whole it just isn't pretty for Greene this season.
Chi-Chi Gonazlez, Texas Rangers - Well, in my FanDuel lineups today I stacked heavy against Ale "Chi Chi " Gonzalez, who was making his major league debut, and it backfired right in my face. He pitched extremely well earning the win with 5.2 shutout innings despite walking five batters. The walks come as no surprise if you've followed Gonzalez throughout his minor league career as he routinely has BB/9 rates in the 3.00+ range. He also has decent strikeout totals throughout the minors, sitting in the 6.5-7.5 per nine most seasons. The Rangers front office seem to want to keep Ross Detwiler in the bullpen saying that Gonzalez's start was not just a spot start. I'd wait one more start before going after him, but in uber-deep leagues and AL only leagues I'd look at him very closely.
Wade Miley, Boston Red Sox - Wade Miley got hit hard by the Rangers Friday taking his fifth loss of the season. The lefty allowed nine hits and six runs (five earned) over just four innings, in which the nine hits are a season high. He had strung together three straight quality starts before this outing, including a 7.0 innings, two run, seven strikeout performance against these same Rangers on the 19th. A promising note though is his hard hit% is down seven percent compared to last year and is right around his 2011 season with Arizona. That year in 40.0 innings he had a 4.50 ERA which I could easily see him hovering around this year.
