Justin Turner (3B-LAD) - With the failed attempt deal Juan Uribe to Atlanta on Tuesday, manager Don Mattingly clarified his third base situation, saying that Turner would be the team's primary third baseman going forward and would start around five games a week. Alex Guerrero would continue to see time at 3B and LF, and Uribe would pick up any scraps. Turner entered Tuesday's action batting .289/.379/.542 with a surprising five home runs and a solid 14.7% K%. It's possible we'll see him get a bit exposed with the expanded playing time, but he's certainly deserving of the opportunity given what he's done since donning a Dodgers uniform last year. He had a 105 AB/HR rate prior to last year, but checked in at 41 last year and so far this year, it's 16.6 through 36 games. Turner should be owned in all but the shallowest of fantasy formats and makes for a solid play at $2,600 in FanDuel daily leagues.
Anthony Rendon (3B-WAS) - Fantasy owners are closing in on a huge boost, as Rendon may be ready at some point next week. He's stealing bases in simulated games and running without being inhibited by the oblique and knee injuries. Rendon broke out to the tune of .287/.357/.473 with 21 homers and 17 steals last year and should provide a nice boost to an already excellent lineup. Yunel Escobar's fantasy value will take a hit with Rendon's return, though Escobar could also eat into Danny Espinosa's playing time depending on how each are performing.
Julio Teheran (SP-ATL) - Teheran's rollercoaster of a season continued on Tuesday, as the Braves' "ace" allowed eight runs on 10 hits over 4.1 innings while walking three and striking out just one. Teheran had a pair of good starts before this one, but those were preceded by a six-run outing in Washington. Teheran's ERA rose from 3.91 to 4.91 as a result, and for the year, his K:BB is a relatively modest 48:22 in 55 innings. The 10 homers are a big part of the ERA as is a BB/9 that's risen to 3.5 after last year's 2.1. Fortunately the velocity is the same year over year, so he could very well turn things around, but a few more ups and downs are certainly possible.
Kris Bryant (3B-CHC) - Remember when Kris Bryant came up and had that huge homerless streak? Yeah that's over. Bryant, batting in the two-hole Tuesday, hit home run #7. Bryant for the year is batting .281/.396/.489 while striking out 29% of the time and walking 15% of the time. He's probably a #3 hitter long-term, but putting him second gets him more at-bats and allows the Cubs to utilize a high-OBP guy at the top of the lineup. There isn't really much else to say here other than it would be good to see Bryant's K% trend down as the season progresses, but he should still be good for 30 home runs and he's already swiped five bases. Don't be surprised to see Bryant going in the top-10 in next year's drafts. At $4,200, Bryant was the priciest 3B in FanDuel leagues Tuesday, but I say it's worth it to use him going forward given the stolen bases.
Randal Grichuk (OF-STL) - Grichuk isn't playing every day, but pretty close to it. Tuesday he hit his second home run of the season in going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a stolen base to improve his slash line to .292/.320/.604. An impressive nine of his 14 hits have been of the extra-base variety though we'd sure like to see some improvement in his 12:2 K:BB in 48 at-bats. Grichuk walked in just 4.3% of his MLB PA's last year and in 5.9% of his 2014 Triple-A PA's. The lack of on-base skills will likely limit Grichuk to fourth OF status unless he can miraculously turn things around. For now though, ride him while he's hot.
