DFS Picks:
Nathan Karns (SP-TB) - Nathan Karns will put his skills to the test against the Orioles on Friday. This season, Karns is 3-2 with a 3.71 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. In seven of his nine starts, Karns has allowed two earned runs or fewer. This success has been fueled by Karns' .252 BABIP, and .210 BAA. In order to pick up his fourth win of the season, Karns will have to defeat an Orioles team that scores 5.23 runs per game at home. Although these numbers may seem alarming, they shouldn't. The Orioles are a third place team, and they strike out 7.91 times per game. Karns, who averages 8.12 K/9, should hold the Orioles in check if he can limit the long ball. Even if Karns doesn't pick up the win, his DFS point total should still be respectable. Thus, his inexpensive price tag is quite the bargain. FanDuel Value Pick $6,600
Trevor Plouffe (3B-MIN) - The Twins absolutely rake at home, and Trevor Plouffe is part of the reason why. His .294 AVG, six home runs, 19 RBIs, and 13 runs scored at Target Field exceed his road numbers by a significant margin. Plouffe and the Twins will face off against the lefty Mark Buehrle on Friday. Away from Rogers Centre, Buehrle owns a 6.30 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. On the road, opposing hitters are slashing .341 against Buehrle with six home runs. This plays perfectly into Plouffe's .288 AVG, and .525 SLG against lefties. Beyond his bat, Plouffe has DFS potential due to his patience at the plate. This season, Plouffe has drawn 11 walks against lefties, in 70 plate appearances. Even if he doesn't hit, he'll still probably reach base, and considering that the Twins score 5.48 runs per game at home, he should have a good chance to score a run. FanDuel Value Pick $2,900
Torii Hunter (RF-MIN) - The Twins are a high upside stack on Friday. This makes Torii Hunter a good choice for your DFS team. Despite being toward the end of his career, Hunter has performed like an All-Star. He has seven home runs, 29 RBIs, 24 runs scored, and a .280 AVG. Hunter and the Twins will face Mark Buehrle on Friday. As mentioned in Trevor Plouffe's blurb, Buehrle has a 6.30 ERA, and a 1.67 WHIP on the road. In his 60 at bats against lefties this season, Hunter is hitting .300 with three home runs, 10 RBIs, and 13 runs scored. This averages out to a home run every 20 at bats, an RBI every six at bats, and a run scored every 4.62 at bats. Based on these numbers, how couldn't you take a chance on Hunter in DFS leagues? FanDuel Value Pick $3,400
The Rookies:
Eduardo Rodriguez (SP-BOS) - You couldn't ask for a better major league debut than the performance that Eduardo Rodriguez gave. Rodriguez carved through the red hot Ranger bats and finished the day with 7.2 shutout innings. He also added seven strikeouts. Coming into the game, Rodriguez was 4-3 at Triple-A Pawtucket. His WHIP was 1.10 and he had 44 strikeouts in 48.1 innings. Opposing hitters were batting .256 against him, with the majority of damage coming from right-handed hitters (.285 BAA). After his outing on Thursday, Rodriguez has value in all fantasy formats. He should be extremely inexpensive in DFS leagues, and on the waiver wire in just about every other fantasy league. He's worth picking up if you have the roster space, but should be given a start off to see how he performs at Fenway.
Mike Wright (SP-BAL) - Mike Wright is rolling in Baltimore. Wright picked up his second win of the year on Thursday after defeating the White Sox 6-3. While Wright wasn't his sharpest, he still did a good job of limiting the damage. He only allowed three runs in five innings and surrendered no walks. With Bud Norris struggling in the minors, Wright's role as the five starter is solidified. His ERA is 1.40, and his WHIP is a miniscule 0.83. Wright isn't a high strikeout guy as conveyed by his 12 K's in 19.1 IP, but he covers the spread in pretty much every other category. At this point, Wright has to be owned in fantasy leagues. His upside is too good to pass on.
