Brandon Moss-Indians-OF
Brandon Moss was 0-3 with 2 RBI in the win over the Blue Jays. Moss is slashing .230/4/18 over his first 22 games. Moss is not going to hit for a high average, but should return to being a reliable source of power. Moss has moved to Cleveland and gets the benefit of playing half his games at Progressive Field, which boosts left-handed power. Moss trails only Alex Rodriguez in hard hit ball percentage and has a 46% FB rate. Add these two factors together and a return to 30+ HR is not out of the question for Moss. If you can buy low based upon his BA, now is the time.
Jered Weaver-Angels-SP
Jered Weaver went 5 IP and gave up 5 ER on 10 H, 1 BB, and 2 K in the loss to the Giants. Weaver has 6.29 ERA over 34.1 IP. Pitchers don't typically ease their way into decline. It normally happens all of a sudden. Weaver looks to be done as a fantasy pitcher. He is only averaging 83 mph on his fastball and as a result isn't missing any bats (6% SwStr). Some might point to his 66% LOB and suggest that he is due some regression in a good way, but at this point it is hard to get major league batters out with a 83 mph fastball, especially for a right-handed pitcher. Therefore the regression might not come. At this point feel free to drop Weaver and go with someone who can offer some upside.
Drew Hutchison-Blue Jays-SP
Drew Hutchison went 4.1 IP and gave up 6 ER on 8 H, 1 BB, 2 K in the loss to the Indians. Hutchison was a popular sleeper pick coming into the 2015 season. Hutchison showed flashes of brilliance at times during the 2014 season. He has a good fastball and excellent off-speed pitches. His slider got 16% SwStr in 2014 and his change-up 14.7%. Both are above average pitches that he can put batters away with. Hutchison clearly has the stuff to succeed at the big level, but has not shown the consistency to be a reliable fantasy pitcher. He has upped his GB% in the early season, but has been hurt by the lack of control on his fastball. At this point he is droppable in almost all leagues, but might be worth the stash in deep leagues where you have space. He has the potential to be fantasy asset, but it is just potential at this point and nothing else.
Trevor Bauer-Indians-SP
Trevor Bauer went 4.1 IP and gave up 6 ER on 3 BB and 1 K in the win against the Blue Jays. Bauer had been excellent up and to this point in 2015. He owned a 1.80 ERA with 28 K in 25 IP coming into this start. His ERA jumped up to 3.38. Bauer has benefited from luck so far this year. It will be extremely hard to have an ERA around 3.00 with a walk rate near five. Not to mention his .246 BABIP and 86% LOB rates will both regress back towards the mean. Bauer will continue to be a good source of strikeouts, but will also have few ugly starts like the one today, because of his prepotency to live on the edge with his control.
DFS Play of the Day
Dallas Keuchel-Astros-SP
Dallas Keuchel is averaging 23.4 DK points per start. His lone start below 20 DK points was against the Texas Rangers. However, I am going back to the well once again on Monday. The Rangers are a bottom five offense. Keuchel keeps the ball on the ground (65% GB rate) therefore he limits his damage. He does not get a ton of strikeouts, but should pitch deep into the game and the Astros are favored to win this game. Keuchel makes for an excellent SP#2 on DraftKings. DraftKings Value:$8,000
