Jeff Samardzija-White Sox-SP
Jeff Samardzija went 6 IP and gave up 5 ER on 8 H, 1 BB, and 6 K in the loss against the Brewers. Samardzija was drafted as a fantasy ace coming into 2015. Samardzija has some interesting things going on. He has changed the way he attacks hitters. He is using his fastball less and his slider and cutter more. He is also registering a career low 6.69 K/9 and has seen his SwStrk% drop to 8.8%. He also has dropped from a 50% GB rate to only 38% this year. Samardzija's peripheral suggest he is closer to the projected 4.00 xFIP pitcher, than the dominant ace we saw a year ago.
Chris Davis-Orioles-1B
Chris Davis hit his 8th homerun of the year in the win against the Blue Jays. Davis is slashing .252/8/21 in the early going. Davis looks to be a candidate for regression in his BA, due to his .360 BABIP and 41% strikeout rate. We all know Davis has power and it has been nice to see it resurface again, but he will continue to be a killer in the BA category. 2013 Davis is looking more and more like an aberration, than a career shift.
Evan Longoria-Rays-3B
Evan Longoria was 0-4 with 2 strikeouts in the loss to the Yankees. Longoria had been red hot over his last seven games (.364/3/7). Longoria will continue to see his counting stats take a hit because of the hitters around him in the lineup. The Rays for years have been unable to surround Longoria with other offensive weapons. Longoria will once again have a hard time cracking 90 R & RBI. I am not saying to get rid of Longoria, just keep it in the back of your mind that his counting stats will not be what you think they should be, because of the lineup around him.
Jimmy Paredes-Orioles-OF
Jimmy Paredes was 2-4 with 2 strikeouts in the win against the Yankees. Paredes has busted onto the scene in 2015. He is slashing .363/5/15. Paredes is 26 yrs. old and has not flashed this type of power or success at any level prior to this year. He has a career 26.7% strikeout rate and 4.8% walk rate, which doesn't suggest his hot start can be sustained over a long period of time. Trade him while he is hot and at the top of his value.
DFS Value Play of the Day
Mike Moustakas-Royals-3B
Mike Moustakas returned to the lineup yesterday. Moustakas represents tremendous value at the 3B position on FanDuel for Tuesday. Moustakas owns .383 wOBA and 23% LD rate against RHP so far in 2015. Moustakas has changed his approach in 2015, which no longer makes him an all or nothing player. He also gets the matchup against Nick Martinez who gives up a .344 wOBA and 47% FB rate to left-handed hitters. FanDuel Value: $2,800
